The People's Committee of Phu Tho province has just issued Document No. 3601/UBND-NNTN dated August 30 on rectifying the situation of enterprises showing signs of non-compliance with regulations on mine design in sand and gravel mining activities in the province.
Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested to temporarily suspend all mining activities on the two Da River and Red River routes for 35 units that have been licensed to exploit sand and gravel minerals on riverbeds and are using mining equipment and means with inappropriate mining capacity (mining capacity is larger than the capacity of mining equipment and means according to the design appraised and approved by the Department of Construction) to select equipment and means in accordance with the mining design documents that have been appraised and approved or adjust the mining capacity and mining regime of the mine.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment shall coordinate with the Department of Construction to review and request the above companies and enterprises, after having corrected the violations, to select means and equipment in accordance with the exploitation and design records approved by competent authorities and report to the Provincial People's Committee.
In case it is not possible to select mining equipment and means with suitable capacity according to the approved design, the licensed unit must develop a plan to adjust the mining equipment capacity, mining design, and calculate to re-establish the mine's working mode; determine the number of mining means suitable for the mine's mining capacity according to the granted license, and submit it to the Department of Construction for appraisal and approval before requesting to resume mining.

The Provincial Police preside over and coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Construction and relevant units to continue to strengthen inspection and handling of violations in sand and gravel mining activities on rivers, while strengthening information and propaganda work to businesses to prevent illegal acts in mineral exploitation.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment shall preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns to continue to review licensed companies and enterprises in the area, promptly report violations, and prevent violations of the law in exploitation; in case of detecting signs of crime, promptly transfer the file to the Provincial Police for handling according to regulations, ensuring prevention of loss of mineral resources, money and assets of the State.
