In recent days, parents and candidates have flocked from many places to universities in Ho Chi Minh City to complete admission procedures after receiving the admission results. Besides taking care of admission procedures, parents and candidates are eagerly contacting dormitories to settle down before the new school year begins. The Ho Chi Minh City National University Dormitory is the largest dormitory in Vietnam today, providing accommodation for students of Ho Chi Minh City National University and its affiliated schools. In the 2025-2026 school year, this dormitory will accommodate 35,500 students, of which 10,500 are expected to be reserved for new students. Mr. Tang Huu Thuy, Director of the Dormitory Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City National University Urban Area, said that this year the unit will use the university entrance exam results and after candidates confirm their enrollment on the general enrollment information portal of the Ministry of Education and Training as the basis for dormitory registration. To help new students and their parents feel secure in receiving accommodation, the unit has increased student volunteers and prepared facilities.
Students who come to the city for the first time bring a lot of luggage. Most students go with relatives or groups of friends to ensure safety and also to make the journey from the countryside to Ho Chi Minh City less confusing. Pham Thi Dung, a parent, accompanied her son, a new student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, to register for a dormitory. She confided: “My son passed the university entrance exam, and my family was both happy and worried. The biggest concern was finding a safe and comfortable place to stay. When I looked at the dormitory room, it seemed spacious, and there was a restaurant and a convenience store next door, so I felt secure.” Many new students choose dormitories because they have relatives studying there. Nguyen Tu My Duyen, a student at the University of Economics and Law, has just completed the procedures for her younger sister to be a new student at the Banking University. Duyen said: "I arranged for her to live in the dormitory so that the two sisters can be close together, conveniently supporting and taking care of each other." Backpacks, suitcases, boxes, motorbikes... are carefully packed to prepare for student life away from home.
The Ho Chi Minh City National University dormitory covers an area of about 42 hectares with 47 buildings. This is the largest dormitory in Vietnam today, providing accommodation for students from 23 universities in Ho Chi Minh City, including member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University and affiliated schools. Boarding fees range from 230,000 to 3,140,000 VND per month, depending on the type of room.
For the past 3 years, this dormitory has had a policy of exempting or reducing fees for students with disabilities, orphans, those with serious illnesses, and those from poor, near-poor, or disadvantaged families. Along with that, the dormitory organizes a "Shared Kitchen" to distribute cheap meal coupons to students in difficult circumstances.
