Strengthening the fight against smuggling and counterfeit goods throughout the Central region

Implementing the urgent dispatch No. 65/CD-TTg dated May 15, 2025 and Directive No. 13/CT-TTg dated May 17, 2025 of the Prime Minister on launching a peak campaign to attack and suppress crimes of smuggling and illegal cross-border transportation of counterfeit, fake and poor-quality goods affecting consumers' health, from May 19 to June 15, 2025, the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department (Customs Department) has synchronously deployed control measures across the Central region.

During the peak period, the Branch focused on applying professional customs control measures, promoting data analysis on key items to screen and strictly control businesses with signs of risk. At the same time, the Branch coordinated with the Customs Branches of the Central region, the Police, Border Guard, Coast Guard, and Market Management forces to grasp, exchange information, verify the origin of goods, promptly detect and handle violations.

As a result, from May 19 to June 15, 2025, the Department discovered, arrested and handled 9 cases, including 2 cases of presiding over arrests and 7 cases of coordination and information transfer. Some typical cases are on May 26, in the waters of Khanh Hoa province, the Department coordinated with Border Guard Squadron 48 and the Customs Control Team (Customs Sub-Department of Region XIII) to inspect the KH-0757 ship controlled by Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung, discovered that it was transporting about 20,000 liters of liquid suspected to be DO oil without legal documents. The value of the violated shipment is estimated at about 348 million VND.

On May 28, in the waters of Ninh Thuan province, the authorities inspected the TH-91658-TS ship piloted by Mr. Huynh Thanh Phong and discovered that it was transporting about 75,000 liters of liquid suspected to be DO oil without invoices or documents. The estimated value is about 1.3 billion VND.

On June 10, at the Central Transportation and Logistics Center ( Da Nang ), authorities inspected two parcels sent from China and the US to Vietnam and discovered a globe misprinted with the name of the East Sea as “South China Sea” and two books with obscene content.

Notably, from May 19 to June 15, the Department presided over and coordinated the inspection of 6 transit shipments from China to Laos through the Cha Lo International Border Gate. Violations included 19,309 products of various types with a total value of about 4.188 billion VND, including: mobile phones, clothes, computer screens, electronic accessories, watches, handbags, of which 02 shipments contained 130 PRADA handbags and 120 JBL speakers with signs of counterfeit trademarks. In addition, 3,369 consumer goods worth about 2.8 billion VND were hidden and not declared to customs.

Currently, the Customs authority is continuing to search and expand the investigation of related shipments.
