Recently, at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in Sydney, the Science and Technology Dialogue Forum took place, a key event within the framework of the Vietnam-Australia TechFest 2025 program series organized by the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Australia (VASEA).
Attending the forum were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; Vietnamese Consul General in Sydney Nguyen Thanh Tung; Mr. Andrew Goledzinowski - former Australian Ambassador to Vietnam for the 2022-2024 term and currently a senior advisor to VASEA; Professor Eryk Dutkiewicz - Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Deputy Dean of the International Faculty, Australian University of Technology; senior leaders from Vietnamese ministries and sectors; innovation experts and business partners of the two countries.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, Professor Nghiem Duc Long - working at the University of Technology Sydney and Chairman of VASEA - said that the forum is a place where science, technology and innovation between Vietnam and Australia intersect in both directions, organized to promote bilateral cooperation in these fields, while highlighting the strategic importance of the Vietnam-Australia relationship as well as the essential role of connecting people and knowledge cooperation, demonstrating the strong commitment of both countries in strengthening bilateral cooperation in green technology, digital transformation and sustainable development.
The presence of a large number of honored guests from Australia and Vietnam demonstrates the growing recognition of the important contributions of Vietnamese intellectuals and experts in Australia, demonstrating that innovation can bring value to the community and contribute to a shared sustainable development future.
For his part, Professor Eryk Dutkiewicz - Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Deputy Dean of the International Faculty, Australian University of Technology - expressed his honor to attend the forum, and said that for UTS, Vietnam is not only a connected country, but also a truly strategic partner.
He said Vietnam has a bold agenda in science, technology, digital transformation, green growth and human resource development, which is completely in line with the strengths of UTS - a leading Australian university in technology and innovation. The cooperation between the two sides is built on a foundation of trust, respect and common goals.
UTS currently collaborates with more than 15 leading universities, research institutes and government agencies across Vietnam, spanning the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), smart cities, industry 4.0, cybersecurity, water and environmental engineering, healthcare , design, business and law…
Through these partnerships, UTS aims to help Vietnam build the skilled, flexible and resilient workforce needed for the future.
Meanwhile, appreciating Vietnam's development in recent years, especially in the field of technology and innovation, former Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski said many Australian companies are keen to recruit software engineers and data analysts from this Southeast Asian country.
He gave three specific examples in information technology, agriculture and critical minerals to illustrate the knowledge exchange and mutually beneficial business opportunities between Vietnam and Australia.
Former Ambassador Goledzinowski predicted that Vietnam would become the second largest IT partner after India, and expressed his joy at witnessing the increasingly strong relationship between Vietnam and Australia, saying that this relationship develops based on trust, mutual respect and concrete actions instead of just stopping at ideas.
At the forum, representatives of a number of leading enterprises such as AgriS company, ARC Ento Tech Ltd biotechnology company, ROWS, ANSCentre, FPT, Viettel, AIBox, Calix Global... introduced advanced technologies and research activities that are contributing to the two-way transfer of science and technology between Australia and Vietnam, new possibilities in high-tech agriculture and circular agriculture, including data-based farming, biotechnology and large-scale climate change adaptation agricultural models, introducing activities to promote agricultural technology cooperation between Australia and Vietnam through large-scale farms and transfer of precision farming technology and digital solutions...
In an interview with a VNA reporter in Sydney, Ms. Nguyen Binh Ninh, working at AgriS, said: “At the forum, we want to introduce the '5-house' model including the state, scientists, farmers, businesses and banks. With the '5-house' model, we create a circular, high-tech agricultural ecosystem for farmers, businesses and people with the same goal of sustainable development to participate. In this ecosystem, AgriS will provide high-tech agricultural solutions and green financial solutions to help the community develop together. AgriS hopes that Vietnam will become a 'door' to connect capital flows and cooperation from Australia to the Southeast Asian community."
A highlight of the forum was the official launch and operation of VietNEST - a breakthrough digital learning platform applying artificial intelligence (AI).
Funded by the Australian Social Impact Fund (ASIF Foundation) and implemented with VietSchool Vietnamese language school, VietNEST brings a completely new Vietnamese language learning experience for children in Australia.
Inspired by the aspiration to support the young generation of Vietnamese people to grow up confidently in "two beautiful worlds," VietNEST brings language and culture to children through scientific activities, cultural identity, creativity and fun.

Based on a powerful digital ecosystem - including classroom management tools, content portals, adaptive artificial intelligence (AI), voice cloning technology and automatic pronunciation correction - VietNEST flexibly supports teachers and brings personalized, engaging learning experiences to students.
The platform allows learners to practice their three-region accents (North, Central, South) and create bilingual stories about life in Australia, helping to maintain language and cultural identity in a modern and authentic way. More importantly, VietNEST equips the young generation of Vietnamese Australians with the ability to communicate and exchange knowledge, science, technology and innovation with their homeland in Vietnamese.
Sharing with VNA reporters in Sydney on the sidelines of the forum, Professor Nghiem Duc Long - working at the University of Technology Sydney and Chairman of VASEA, said VietNEST will help create an attractive environment for children to learn Vietnamese in the spirit of "learning while playing, playing while learning," learning and absorbing Vietnamese culture.
VASEA's top priority is to preserve Vietnamese cultural and language traditions in Australia so that future generations can continue and contribute more to the country and homeland.
As a parent who has let her child use the VietNEST application since the first days of testing, Ms. Tran Kim Ngoc Thu commented that this is a very good and highly interactive online learning program, helping children to be more flexible in learning Vietnamese. What makes Ms. Thu happy is that after a period of using the VietNEST software, her son's ability to interact and respond in Vietnamese has improved significantly, he is more confident and very excited about learning his mother tongue./.
