The national power transmission network connects the vast South Central, Central Highlands, and Southeast regions with 7 500 kV lines and 7 220 kV lines, passing through the provinces of Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau , and many other provinces in the region. It is an important source of national power grid, providing socio-economic development for economic zones in the region.
With a large power transmission network, operating across many terrains of plains, mountains, midlands, densely populated areas, and located in areas with high lightning density in the country, the prolonged heat wave, especially in the South Central region, inevitably affects the safety of the national power transmission grid. Along with that, the transmission lines, shared between Binh Thuan and neighboring provinces, including 6 large voltage lines such as Vinh Tan - Song May, Vinh Tan - Re Song May - Tan Uyen (from the source of Vinh Tan power center), Da Mi - Xuan Loc, Ham Thuan - Xuan Loc, Ham Tan - Da Bac, Ham Tan - Tan Thanh, and transformer stations along the lines all need a common protection solution for the entire line, avoiding incidents during the long dry season.
Recently, at the conference to strengthen coordination in the operation of the transmission grid to ensure national energy security in Phan Thiet City, Mr. Ho Cong, Deputy Director of Power Transmission Company 3 (PTC3) said that the weather forecast in 2024 will continue to be complicated. To ensure safe operation of electricity in the dry season, according to calculations by the National Power System Dispatch Center, in March 2024 and the following months, the transmission capacity of the Central and South Central regions will begin to increase by 12.36% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the 220 kV transmission grid system in the South Central and Central Highlands operated by the unit in 2024 has not had any positive changes compared to the previous year in terms of the power grid structure, and key transmission line projects have not been put into operation. In addition, the overloaded transmission of renewable energy Chu Se - Pleiku 2 and biomass sources An Khe - Pleiku has caused many transformer stations and power lines to be always full and overloaded, with the potential risk of incidents. Previously, the power transmission management unit in the area had increased the lightning protection wire at the top of the pole for 67 locations of the 500 kV Vinh Tan - Re Song May line (double circuit); and installed lightning rods at 117 locations.
Along with that, PTC3 technical staff and Power Transmission Company 4 participating in the conference proposed solutions for effective management and operation of the transmission grid such as applying 3D flight models, automatic flight paths in the management and operation of the transmission grid; establishing a framework for operating composite porcelain for 220 kV and 500 kV transmission lines. At the same time, the units coordinated to hold regular or ad hoc meetings, analyze and evaluate the status of power grid operation, incidents, troubleshooting work, propose solutions to improve the quality of power transmission management and operation; strengthen fire prevention in the dry season, line incidents; general plans for flood and storm prevention, ensuring operation of common management and operation lines. Units also strengthen coordination regulations, provide full communication information when detecting abnormalities, risks of incidents at boundary locations, power grid repair plans, and improve the efficiency of national power transmission management.
