Strengthening and expanding the friendship between the Vietnamese people

On the morning of September 30, in Hanoi, the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association held its 6th National Congress for the 2023-2028 term.

Attending the Congress were over 170 delegates representing thousands of members of the Association in 32 provinces and centrally-run cities and 15 branches in agencies, units, schools and liaison committees of those who have studied and worked in the Russian Federation.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Chairman of the Vietnam Subcommittee of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee on Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation, attended and gave directions for the Association's activities in the new period. Attending the Congress were representatives of leaders of a number of Vietnamese ministries, departments and branches; Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Prof. Bezdetko; and a delegation of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association.

Speaking at the Congress, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha praised the vibrant, regular and practical activities of the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Vietnam identifies developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the Russian Federation as one of the top priorities in its foreign policy; the people-to-people diplomacy activities of the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association contribute, together with the Party's foreign affairs and State diplomacy, to implementing that important priority.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association at the central, local and grassroots levels to be more proactive in both consolidating friendships with old partners and building and expanding friendships with new partners in the Russian Federation, in order to create a diverse network of friends and partners; making the most of support, coordination and cooperation from people's organizations of the Russian Federation to expand international relations and advocacy, focusing on the youth, the press, scholars and businessmen.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that the Association needs to focus on expanding and developing its organization, attracting members, especially young members, youth, students, intellectuals, and businessmen to participate in the Association's work; promoting creativity, innovating methods and fields of operation to be able to widely approach subjects, flexibly implementing friendly exchange and cooperation activities, establishing and implementing rich, diverse, direct, and effective cooperation channels in many specific fields; focusing on innovating content and form as well as improving the quality and effectiveness of information and propaganda work; promoting exchange activities with friendly countries in the fields of journalism, culture, literature and arts, etc. to help Russian people understand more fully and deeply about Vietnam in the past, present and future, and correctly understand Vietnam's domestic and foreign policies, viewpoints, stances, and policies. Through the activities of the Association, we contribute to widely promoting the image of the country, people, history, culture and traditions of Vietnam.

During the past term, the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association from the central to grassroots levels has had many diverse and practical activities in the field of people-to-people diplomacy, strengthening cooperation with the Russia - Vietnam Friendship Association and many other partners in Russia, enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries; preserving and consolidating traditional friendship, contributing to deepening the Vietnam - Russia strategic partnership.

The Association has had remarkable activities, such as organizing the Association's national conference in rotation in localities; coordinating with the Russia - Vietnam Friendship Association and a number of units to organize in the two countries the painting contest "I draw Vietnam - I draw Russia"; translating from Russian to Vietnamese and publishing a number of books, such as "Russians talk about President Ho Chi Minh", the poetry collection "Waiting for you to come back" by Soviet and Russian authors about the great war of national defense 1941-1945, books about the role of people's diplomacy in developing Vietnam - Russian Federation relations...

During the years affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association and its partners in Russia maintained contact and communication in appropriate forms to share information with each other and maintain the flow of coordinated actions. After Vietnam and Russia "reopened" after the pandemic, the cooperative relationship continued to be promoted.

During the past term, the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association had 7 new member units, including the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association of Thai Nguyen province and 5 Vietnam - Russia Friendship Associations under the Central Association (Hanoi University of Business and Technology Association; Tank - Armored Corps Association; Air Defense - Air Force Service; Ministry of Public Security Association; Hanoi National University Association; Lomonosov Moscow State University Alumni Association).

The Congress approved the Action Program of the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association for the 2023-2028 period. The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee of the Association for the 6th term, consisting of 95 members, and the Association's Inspection Committee, consisting of 5 members. Dr. Phan Chi Hieu, Party Secretary and President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, was elected President of the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association for the 2023-2028 term./.
