Currently, the collection and treatment of wastewater in urban areas concentrated in wards such as Ha Long, Bai Chay, Hon Gai, Cao Xanh, Cam Pha, Quang Yen, Van Don special zone... reaches a rate of 66.7%. Industrial zones and clusters operating in the province all have centralized wastewater treatment systems that meet environmental discharge standards. Hospitals and medical centers all have medical waste collection and treatment systems that meet standards.

In rural areas, solid waste management has also been strengthened; at the same time, the quality of wastewater from livestock farming after treatment has been strictly controlled, creating a fundamental change in environmental quality and a solid foundation for environmental protection in the process of urbanization in rural areas.
In recent times, the province has also focused on investing in centralized waste treatment areas, infrastructure for collection and transfer points for domestic solid waste in villages and hamlets. Up to now, the province has 3 regional treatment areas in operation; at the same time, there are 19 small-scale incinerators for remote, border and island areas in operation... basically ensuring the need for domestic solid waste treatment in the whole province, meeting environmental criteria according to regulations. Currently, the rate of collection and treatment of domestic waste in urban areas, island communes and communes with tourism activities ensuring standards and regulations reaches 98.8%.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Son, Tan Phu village, Dam Ha commune said: Although living in a rural area, my commune has had a garbage collection unit for many years now, so people no longer have to struggle with daily household waste disposal like before.

Not only focusing on waste treatment and domestic wastewater in residential areas, the authorities also strictly control waste sources, especially industrial wastewater in industrial parks and clusters. Currently, 171 automatic environmental monitoring stations in the area are closely monitored and managed to promptly detect waste sources affecting the environment. The whole province continues to relocate polluting production facilities located in residential areas, which are not in accordance with urban planning, to industrial parks and clusters. To date, localities have relocated a total of 862/2,361 facilities (reaching 36.5%).
Controlling the work of classifying, collecting, transporting and treating hazardous waste is also focused on. It is estimated that the rate of collection, transporting and treating hazardous waste in the province is currently over 99%, the remaining hazardous waste is collected and stored by hazardous waste source owners awaiting treatment according to regulations.
Along with that, the province has improved the quality of preparing, appraising, and approving environmental impact assessment reports, planning, and construction permits, only granting permits when environmental factors are guaranteed, and resolutely not using technology that pollutes the environment. During the process of appraising documents, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with departments, branches, sectors, and People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones to ensure that 100% of documents are appraised and submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for approval when environmental factors are guaranteed and in accordance with the provincial planning.

For example, since 2022, Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group has invested in an additional 7.5km of coal conveyor belt; bringing the total number of kilometers of coal conveyor belt invested to date to 47.3km. In addition, the Group has also invested in building 18 specialized car routes with a total length of 109.8km... to protect the air environment. Currently, the transportation of coal to ports and power plants in the province is basically carried out by conveyor belts and railways, thereby solving the problem of dust and dirt from the coal transportation process affecting residents and urban areas...
Thanks to promoting solutions, environmental quality in the province is increasingly improved; awareness of businesses and people in environmental protection is increasingly enhanced, contributing to building Quang Ninh increasingly green - clean - beautiful.
