Deeply connected to global supply chains

According to the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, currently in Hanoi, there are 289 products of 191 enterprises recognized as key industrial products of Hanoi. These products belong to the following industrial groups: mechanical engineering, manufacturing; electricity, electronics; information technology; textiles, footwear; agricultural and food processing industry; chemical, rubber, plastic, pharmaceutical industry; construction materials industry; handicrafts.

Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Kieu Oanh assessed that units with key industrial products are mostly large-scale, highly competitive enterprises, so they have the ability to participate in the global production and supply chain.

"In the first 9 months of 2024, the industrial production index increased by 5.4% over the same period last year (in the first 9 months of 2023, it increased by 2.5%), with significant contributions from key industries," said the Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade.

Assessing the role of developing key industrial products, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute, Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, said that through production and business activities, enterprises with key industrial products have affirmed their role as pillars and driving forces for the capital's industrial development. Each year, these enterprises achieve revenue of nearly 200,000 billion VND, accounting for nearly 35% of the city's total industrial production value. Not only meeting the domestic market, key industrial products have grown rapidly in export value, currently reaching nearly 2 billion USD.

However, according to Mr. Thien, reality shows that in the process of producing key industrial products, businesses are facing difficulties due to negative impacts of the world economy with many geopolitical instabilities.

Accordingly, to bring key industrial products into the global supply chain, according to Ms. Oanh, Hanoi always accompanies businesses in solving difficulties, organizing promotional activities, and advertising products. This support helps affirm the position of Vietnamese goods and contributes to the economic development of the capital.

Specifically, identifying key industries as playing a very important role in industrial development, the Hanoi People's Committee issued Decision No. 496/QD-UBND dated January 26, 2018 approving the Project on developing key industrial products in Hanoi until 2020, with a vision to 2025; Decision No. 4303/QD-UBND dated September 24, 2020 promulgating the Plan to implement the project on developing key industrial products for the period 2021-2025 in Hanoi.

Accordingly, to help businesses develop key industrial products, according to Ms. Oanh, Hanoi will increase support for businesses in building brands, management systems, technology transfer, human resource training, and design improvement. In particular, it will promote trade promotion activities to help businesses participate in the global production and supply chain.

According to Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, to support enterprises producing key industrial products to penetrate the global supply chain, Hanoi continues to have policies to encourage and support manufacturing enterprises to form internationally competitive enterprises, leading, supporting and supporting other enterprises to develop together.

Promote consumption of key industrial products

In particular, in order to expand the output for key industrial products, in recent times, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade as well as the Ministry of Industry and Trade and related units have organized many conferences and trade promotion fairs on a regional scale to promote product output. For example, on October 16, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade also organized the "Hanoi City Key Industrial Products Fair 2024". The fair helps connect with businesses in the supply chain, meeting the needs of customers who are large manufacturers, producing complete products and the ability to integrate into the international economy.

The fair attracted over 200 booths of key industrial enterprises in Hanoi to participate in displaying and introducing industrial products with high added value, using modern technology, not causing environmental pollution, with export strengths to replace imported goods in the fields of electricity, electronics, mechanical engineering, textiles, footwear, high technology, processing industry... This is a large-scale fair on key industrial products of Hanoi, which was successfully organized in 2022 and became an annual fair of key industries.

Evaluating the effectiveness of the Fair, Ms. Oanh said: The Fair is also an opportunity for businesses to promote trade, seek partners, sign trade agreements to develop domestic and export markets; at the same time, share experiences, transfer technology, automate production and business, towards modernizing production, increasing labor productivity, saving raw materials, fuel, and improving competitiveness. In particular, the Fair also connects with businesses in the supply chain, meeting the needs of customers who are large manufacturers, producing finished products and the ability of businesses to integrate into the international economy.

In order to create opportunities for connecting product consumption, during the fair, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade also organized a conference to connect Hanoi businesses with FDI enterprises and large business groups. Through the conferences, the opinions of experts, researchers and businesses have suggested measures and policies to promote the development of priority industries, key industries and high-tech industries of Hanoi and the whole country.
