On August 15, the missile frigate 016-Quang Trung belonging to Brigade 162 (Naval Region 4) and the Vietnam People's Navy delegation led by Colonel Nguyen Vinh Nam, Deputy Commander of Naval Region 4, docked at Swettenham port, Penang, Malaysia, ready to participate in the 3rd ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX 3).

At Swettenham Port, Rear Admiral Ahmad Sapuan Fathi bin Hj Muhammad, Commander of the exercise, together with representatives of officers and crew of the Royal Malaysian Navy held a ceremony to welcome the Vietnamese Navy delegation and ship 016-Quang Trung.
Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the Royal Malaysian Navy sailors and the officers of ship 016 agreed on the work program for this exercise.
During the nearly 1,200 nautical mile voyage from Cam Ranh port ( Khanh Hoa ) to Swettenham port, ship 016 organized training for the ship's crew on watch and on the journey; practiced combat deployment tables according to the plan to improve the ability to organize and coordinate command, combat readiness, and the level of mastery of weapons and equipment of the troops in conditions where the ship operates for a long time at sea; organized to grasp the situation of the sea areas on the route, ensuring absolute safety in all aspects.
As planned, on the morning of August 16, the Quang Trung missile frigate will participate in the AMNEX 3 exercise.
Previously, in April this year, the missile frigate Quang Trung and the missile frigate 015 Tran Hung Dao docked at China's Beihai Military Port to participate in activities within the framework of the 9th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange and conduct the 38th joint patrol in the Gulf of Tonkin with the Chinese Navy.
How modern is the Quang Trung missile frigate?
Ship 016-Quang Trung is a Gepard 3.9 missile frigate built by Russia's Zelenodolsk shipyard under the order of the Vietnam People's Navy.
The ship is armed with an AK-176M 76mm gun. The gun has a maximum range of 15km and a rate of fire of 120 rounds per minute. The gun can fight against small surface ships, patrol boats, shell coastal targets and air defense.
The main air defense shield on the 016 ship is the Palma integrated air defense system. The system includes 2 AO-KD super rapid-fire guns. Each gun has 6 barrels, 30 mm ammunition, firing speed of 4,000 - 6,000 rounds/minute. 8 Sosna-R low-altitude air defense missiles. The missiles have a range of 15 km, altitude of 10 km.
Supporting the Palma system are two AK-630 super-rapid-firing guns, 6 barrels, 30 mm ammunition at the stern of the ship. The guns have a maximum firing rate of 5,000 rounds/minute, with an effective range of 4 - 5 km. The AK-630 is designed for air defense, missile interception, and destruction of enemy landing craft.
The most powerful firepower system on the 016 is 8 Kh-35 Uran-E anti-ship missiles. The missile has a range of hundreds of kilometers. It is guided to the target using a combination of inertial guidance and terminal active radar. The Kh-35 carries a 145 kg warhead that can sink a 5,000-ton warship...
