Spain secured their place at the 2026 World Cup after a tense 2-2 draw with Türkiye in Seville, Spain, in the early hours of November 19. La Roja finished the qualifying round at the top of Group E with an unbeaten record, despite having to endure some terrifying moments against a resilient opponent.

The reigning European champions got off to a dream start when Dani Olmo opened the scoring in the 4th minute. However, Türkiye, who needed a win by an almost impossible margin (7 goals) to qualify directly, fought bravely.

In the 42nd minute, Deniz Gul equalized 1-1 for the away team. More than 10 minutes later, Türkiye created a big shock when Salih Ozcan fired a long shot from the edge of the penalty area, raising the score to 2-1 to the amazement of the home fans.

However, captain Mikel Oyarzabal shone at the right time, equalizing the score 2-2 in the 62nd minute. This goal helped Spain avoid their first home defeat in a qualifying match.

With this result, Spain officially won a direct ticket, while Türkiye had to be satisfied with a place in the play-off round to look for the last chance to reach the finals in North America.

In the same match, Belgium easily defeated Liechtenstein 7-0, officially holding a ticket to the World Cup finals next year. This victory not only erased the disappointment of the previous matches but also helped coach Rudi Garcia's team finish the qualifying campaign with an unbeaten record.

Belgium's fifth win in eight games took them to the top of Group J on 18 points, two ahead of runners-up Wales, and secured a place at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. This was Belgium's 15th appearance at the finals and they have reached the semi-finals twice.

Playing at home, Belgium started strongly, opening the scoring with a header from Hans Vanaken after just 150 seconds. However, it took Belgium another 32 minutes to score a second goal when Alexis Saelemaekers set up Jeremy Doku for a close-range finish. Doku continued to shine in the 41st minute, dribbling past three defenders before finishing brilliantly to make it 3-0.

In the second half, the Belgian players treated the home crowd to a “goal feast” with 4 goals in just 7 minutes. Brandon Mechele was the one who raised the score to 4-0.

Three minutes later, Alexis Saelemaekers scored Belgium's fifth goal. Between the 57th and 58th minutes, Charles De Ketelaere completed his double in quick succession, with assists from Doku and Thomas Meunier.
