White silk strip among green patches
Located not far from Highway 20, in Lien Dam Commune (Di Linh District, Lam Dong Province), there is a waterfall pouring down from a cliff over 50m high. Walking on the slope, visitors can hear the sound of the waterfall roaring, echoing throughout the area.
Locals say the waterfall is called Bobla, or also known as Lien Dam waterfall. The road to the waterfall is paved and lies under a shady canopy of trees.
Near Bobla waterfall there is a small, multi-tiered waterfall with cool, clear water flowing over moss-covered rocks.
Standing at the foot of the small waterfall, visitors can hear the sound of falling water and feel the steam in the wind from the Bobla waterfall, which is foaming white a few hundred meters away.
Bobla Falls is over 50m high, pouring down from the top of two elephant-shaped hills. The waterfall's water stream is about 20m wide, pouring down the rugged cliff face almost vertically into the lake below.
From afar, the waterfall looks like a white silk strip among the green carpets, making visitors unable to take their eyes off it.
At the foot of the waterfall is a small lake with large rocks protruding from it. Around the waterfall are many tall, shady trees.
The water from the waterfall forms a winding stream, meandering over the rocky surface, running all the way to the village. On both banks, trees, grass, and wild flowers bloom all year round.
According to locals, the waterfall is full of water all year round. However, during the rainy season, the water carries down the red mud typical of the Di Linh plateau, so the lake at the foot of the waterfall is not clear but has a murky red color.
On the contrary, in the dry season, there is less rain and the water is clearer.
Surrounding Bobla Falls in addition to the natural forest is a rich flora. There are also many colorful wild flowers.
Associated with legend
Bobla Falls in the local language is Nhrùh Bồ Bla (roughly translated: Elephant Head Waterfall) or Nhrùh Liang Dăm. These names are associated with the legends of the indigenous people.
The Di Linh travel guide provided by the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Di Linh district states that Bobla waterfall is a famous tourist destination of Di Linh district, very popular with tourists.
The waterfall is also known as Lien Dam waterfall - the pronunciation of Liang Dam - the name of the hero who saved the village from the invasion and rule of other tribes in the K'ho legend.
According to this document, the K'ho Sre people said that in ancient times, the village was ruled by another tribe. They forced the natives to pay tribute with products from the mountains and forests such as: animal skins, rhinoceros horns, deer, especially elephant tusks...
Once, the chief found a pair of precious elephant tusks, taller than a man, and presented them to him. The king of the ruling tribe was so pleased with the tusks that he named the waterfall where they were found Bobla.
In the K'ho language, Bo means head, Bla means ivory. Since then, the stream of water flowing down from the steep cliff in the area has also been named Bobla waterfall or also known as Elephant Head waterfall.
To remind us of the old legend, there is now a large elephant statue made of cement at the waterfall area.
According to Di Linh Travel Guide , Bobla waterfall is also related to the legend of Liang Dam, a hero who protected the villagers. In the legend of the natives, Liang Dam had a strong and tall body.
The young man did not submit to the invasion and rule of the tribe from another land. One day, Liang Dam's village was oppressed. Liang Dam took up a spear and fought with the enemy.
Wherever Liang Dam went, the enemy forces disintegrated. After repelling the enemy, he quietly went towards the Bobla waterfall and disappeared.
To remember the hero's merits, the local people named the village Liang Dam. Later, this proper name was mispronounced and transcribed according to the language of the Lien Dam capital. Therefore, Bobla is also called Lien Dam waterfall.
Mr. Vu Thanh Cong, Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Di Linh district, said that Bobla is the highest and most majestic natural waterfall in Di Linh district. “Currently, the waterfall is exploited for tourism. Every year, Bobla waterfall welcomes more than 27,000 visitors and uses tourism services,” said Mr. Cong. |
