In his latest interview, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo asserted that Apple will announce its first foldable iPhone in the fall of 2026, but cautioned against a severe supply shortage.
"The development of a foldable iPhone is slower than initially expected, but the product is still projected to be announced in the second half of 2026," Kuo said.
According to Mashable , "announcement" and "having stock available" are two completely different concepts. Apple is struggling in the early stages of optimizing product yield and accelerating the manufacturing process.
As a result, smooth deliveries may not occur until 2027. With limited supply and projected high demand, foldable iPhones could face severe shortages until at least the end of 2026.
A similar scenario occurred with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max previously. At that time, despite launching in October 2022, many customers had to wait until 2023 to get their hands on the device because Apple Stores did not have enough stock to fulfill pre-orders.
With the iPhone Fold, this scarcity could be even more severe due to the complexity of the foldable screen technology.
However, the revelations from Ming-Chi Kuo and Mashable contradict some previous predictions. There were reports that the iPhone Fold had passed the prototype testing phase and moved on to the pre-production testing phase.
Shortly afterward, a report revealed that Apple only needed a few minor tweaks before beginning mass production of the device. Next, detailed CAD drawings of the device's dimensions emerged.
The expected foldable iPhone will feature a vertical, book-like folding design, with a 5.5-inch outer screen and a 7.7-inch inner screen. Apple's main goal is to create a wide screen with no crease when unfolded. This will be the most expensive iPhone ever, predicted to cost between $2,000 and $2,500 .
By entering the foldable smartphone segment, Apple will face increasing competition from other brands such as Huawei, the dominant foldable phone manufacturer in China.
