From January 1 to May 10, Thailand had 53,676 Covid-19 cases and 16 deaths reported, according to the Bangkok Post.
Bangkok recorded the most infections with 16,723 cases, peaking in the week from April 27 to May 3 with 14,349 cases, including 2 deaths.
Mr Somsak Thepsutin called on people not to panic, but to remain vigilant and adhere to public health measures, such as wearing masks.

Other provinces with significant numbers of cases include Chon Buri, with 1,177 cases, Nonthaburi with 866 cases and Rayong with 553 cases.
During the week from May 4 to 10, the number of new infections dropped to 12,543.
Somsak Thepsutin explained that seasonal factors and mass gatherings drive the rate of Covid-19 infections. He said Covid-19 is now a year-round disease. Although it is highly contagious, the severity of the disease has decreased.

Minister Somsak Thepsutin also outlined the steps to take if you suspect you have symptoms of Covid-19, including doing a rapid test at home if you have symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or fatigue.
If the result is positive, self-isolate, wear a mask, avoid contact with others, especially the elderly, pregnant women and people with underlying diseases, and follow hygiene procedures.
Somsak Thepsutin advised those with severe symptoms to seek medical attention promptly, according to the Bangkok Post.
