Thailand strengthens protection of coastal areas

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Phatcharavat Wongsuwan said that two of the three notices were drafted by the ministry and approved by the cabinet at a regular meeting on May 28.

The notices relate to a number of environmental protection measures in Khura Buri, Takua Pa, Thai Muang, Thap Put, Takua Thung, Koh Yao and Muang districts of Phangnga province and Ao Luk, Nua Khlong, Khlong Thom, Koh Lanta and Muang districts of Krabi province.

“These measures will prohibit activities that are harmful to the local ecosystem. Accordingly, local factories will be required to set up machinery and equipment to control pollution and address environmental issues,” Phatcharavat stressed. He said the height of factories within a 100-meter radius of historical sites will also be limited.
