Dao Duy Tu Temple was renovated and embellished.
Dao Duy Tu, whose given name was Loc Khe (born in 1572), was from Hoa Trai village, Ngoc Son district, Thanh Hoa town (now Son Thang residential group, Dao Duy Tu ward, Thanh Hoa province). As a child, he was famous for being intelligent and a good student, but when he participated in the provincial exams of the Le dynasty, he was always "disqualified" because he was the son of a theater family. In 1625, Dao Duy Tu left his hometown to live and build his career in Tung Chau, Bong Son district, Hoai Nhon prefecture, Binh Dinh province (now Hoai Nhon ward, Gia Lai province).
During his time serving Lord Nguyen, Dao Duy Tu made many important contributions in the fields of economics, military, politics and literature and art, and was considered a talent "Kinh bang hoa quoc, thong nhat xa thu". In 1634, he passed away at the age of 63. After his death, Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen gave him the title "Hiep mau dong duc cong than" and buried him in Tung Chau, Hoai Nhon prefecture (now Hoai Nhon ward, Gia Lai province). In the 9th year of Gia Long's reign, he was worshiped at Khai Quoc Cong Than temple.
In the 12th year of Minh Mang (1831), Dao Duy Tu was posthumously awarded the title of Khai Quoc Cong Than, Dac Tien Vinh Loc Dai Phu, Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si Thai Su and was given the title of Hoang Quoc Cong. In 1939, he was posthumously awarded the title of "Khai Quoc Cong Than, Dac Tien Vinh Loc, Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si, Thai Su, Hoang Quoc Cong, Trac Vi Thuong Dang Than" by King Bao Dai; he ordered the people of No Giap village to bring the palanquin to Van Trai station to receive the decree and build a temple in his hometown. Dao Duy Tu's temple is a 19th century architectural work with 3 wooden houses with tiled roofs and enclosed walls.
After many historical events, the Temple of Grand Tutor Hoang Quoc Cong Dao Duy Tu has deteriorated. With the attention of the State and support of philanthropists and local people, from 2018 to December 2023, the Dao Duy Tu Temple has been renovated and embellished with items such as: main temple, welcoming gate, left and right houses, drum tower, gong tower, electricity and water system, fence... Currently, the relic is renovated and embellished spaciously, meeting the wishes of people inside and outside the ward. Every year, the Dao Duy Tu Temple welcomes thousands of visitors to visit, sightsee, burn incense, pray for blessings and peace.
Proud of his hometown with national historical relics, over the years, the Party Committee, government and people of Dao Duy Tu ward have always made efforts to protect, preserve and promote the values of the relics through practical actions, such as: participating in the protection and contributing labor and money to renovate the grounds of the relics; cleaning the environment around the relics; respectfully burning incense on the first days of the month and the full moon days... Every year, on his death anniversary, Dao Duy Tu ward organizes a festival to commemorate and honor his great contributions and educate the revolutionary tradition to the younger generation.
Mr. Le Van Binh, one of the residents of Dao Duy Tu ward, said: "The historical relic of Dao Duy Tu Temple is the pride of the people inside and outside the ward. Over the years, realizing my responsibility in preserving and promoting the values of the relic, I have actively contributed my efforts and money with the State and the people to renovate and embellish the relic. At the same time, I encourage my descendants in the family to actively participate in protecting the relic. Currently, seeing the relic being renovated and embellished, I and everyone in the ward are happy. In the coming time, I will continue to work with the people in the ward to do practical work to protect the relic."
“With its profound historical and cultural values, in 2002, Dao Duy Tu Temple was ranked as a national historical relic. In December 2021, Dao Duy Tu Temple was recognized as a provincial tourist destination. This is an important condition for the ward to develop spiritual tourism. To continue to preserve and promote the value of the relic, the ward will strengthen management and prevent damage to the relic. Pay attention to educating the value of cultural heritage so that the young generation in the ward can form a sense of respect and have the right behavior to protect the relic. Continue to renovate and embellish Dao Duy Tu Temple to become more spacious, worthy of being a national historical relic”, said Mr. Le Duy Trung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dao Duy Tu Ward.
