July is a month to return to Mother.

The glorious pages of our nation's history were not only written by the courage of heroes who sacrificed their lives and blood for independence and freedom, but also by the silent sacrifices of the Heroic Vietnamese Mothers on the home front – those who, suppressing their grief and wiping away their tears, bid farewell to their husbands and sons as they answered the call of the nation, serving the country and never returning.

In July, we return to our mothers, to listen to the stories of the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers who contributed to the golden pages of history, leaving their names immortalized for generations to come.

In the golden afternoon sunlight, mingled with gentle breezes from the salt fields of Phuong Cuu 1 village, Phuong Hai commune (Ninh Hai district), the home of Mother of Vietnamese Heroic Soldiers Nguyen Thi Thieu is always filled with the laughter and chatter of her children, grandchildren, and neighbors. Although we hadn't introduced ourselves, Mother Thieu greeted us warmly upon our arrival. Beyond the emotion, we were even more deeply moved by her generosity and understood that these noble qualities had helped countless revolutionary troops she sheltered and evade the enemy's watchful eyes. This year, Mother Thieu is 94 years old; her hair is gray, and she has lost some of her memories, but she never forgets her husband and son who sacrificed their lives. She recounted that she migrated from Quang Tri to this area in her twenties, sharing the same revolutionary ideals, and she married Mr. Vo Chac. At that time, Mr. Chac was involved in building the revolutionary movement in the local area. My mother sheltered revolutionary cadres in the family's secret bunker. During the war, all the cadres she hid were safe. But Mr. Chac was not so lucky; he died in 1962, leaving my mother and four young children behind. Swallowing her tears, Mother Thieu continued to work tirelessly to raise her children. Then, in 1971, following in the heroic tradition of her family, her third son, Vo Van Dan, joined the revolutionary movement at Thuan Bac District Military Command. Despite her worries, Mother always encouraged her son to remain steadfast and loyal to the Party. Thanks to her words, Dan was always enthusiastic and dedicated to every front. However, one day at the end of 1972, Mother was once again shocked to receive the news that Dan had died at Bau Cong, Phuong Cuu village, Phuong Hai commune. Her heart ached. As time passed, overcoming her grief, Mother encouraged herself, believing that the sacrifice and the end of her husband and son were actually the beginning and the foundation that contributed to the victory against the invading army.

Goodbye and wishing Mother Thieu continued good health. We then continued our journey to visit Mother of Vietnamese Heroic Soldiers Thai Thi Hue in Trieu Phong 1 village, Quang Son commune (Ninh Son district). During the years of colonial and imperialist invasion, like many other wives and mothers, Mother Hue silently bid farewell to her husband and sons as they went to fight. In 1964, her husband, Mr. Thai Van Trac, was killed in action. Before her grief could subside, her two sons, Thai Van Hien (who died in 1968) and Thai Van Hien (who died in 1975), also perished on the battlefields of Southern Vietnam. Mother Hue herself participated in the resistance and later taught literacy classes. For more than half her life, she lived under the rain of bombs and bullets, enduring hardship and deprivation, yet she still toiled day and night to raise her children and educate them about love for their country. After peace was restored, she continued to work to rebuild her homeland. Now 103 years old, Mother's memory is no longer clear because age has caused her to forget many things from the past. Her son, Thai Van Tung, shared: "Mother is old and her health has deteriorated significantly; she can't talk, so the family is always there to take care of her in her daily life. The Party and the State have shown great care for my family. In addition to fully implementing the State's regulations, for many years, local Party committees, authorities, and organizations have always shown concern and care for Mother through specific and practical activities. During holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), they offer encouragement, which makes the family very happy."

Mother Thieu and Mother Hue are representative of the 518 mothers in our province who were honored by the Party and State with the prestigious title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother, of which 3 are still alive. Although years have passed, the immense sacrifices of these Heroic Vietnamese Mothers will live on forever. Our gratitude and admiration make us even more proud of them, and their stories serve as a reminder to our generations today to never forget the heroic, glorious, and incredibly proud past of our nation.
