Beating Inter Miami, Coach Luis Enrique talks about the possibility of reuniting with Messi

TPO - PSG are closer than ever to a historic season, after easily defeating Inter Miami with a score of 4-0 in the 1/8 round of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 early this morning. After the match, coach Luis Enrique shared about the possibility of reuniting with his former student Messi.

“It is clear that this has been a historic season for PSG,” said coach Luis Enrique after the match. “We want to continue writing that history in this tournament."

The match against Inter Miami brought a lot of emotions for the Spanish strategist, when on the other side of the battle line were his former students at Barcelona Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, during the period he led both at Camp Nou from 2014-2017.

“This is a very special match,” said coach Enrique. “I get to meet again people who have had great significance in my career, people who have been with me through many ups and downs at Camp Nou.”

When asked about the possibility of reuniting with Messi in the future, the Spanish coach answered cleverly: "That question should be for Messi. Everyone can see that he still maintains his qualities. Facing a player like that is not easy. But I think today the whole team played a really excellent match."

PSG almost decided the match in the first half with four consecutive goals, showing complete dominance of the game. Inter Miami only really rose in the second half, but not enough to make an impression on a classy PSG.

“I think the first half was our best performance since the start of the tournament,” said Enrique. “We controlled the game completely and did not allow our opponents any dangerous chances. In the second half, the score was too safe so we played a bit slower, and Inter Miami created a few notable situations.”

In the quarter-finals, PSG will face one of two traditional opponents, Flamengo or Bayern Munich. However, Enrique said he did not want to think too far ahead. “We need to keep our concentration high. This is not the time to think about the holidays or the next season. The most important thing is to recover physically and prepare well for the next match."
