Most Chinese (or Chinese-language) cinema lovers have at least once watched movies by martial arts stars such as Jackie Chan, Wu Jing, Donnie Yen, Zhao Wen Zhuo....
On screen, they make the audience amazed with beautiful martial arts action scenes.
But if these actors competed against each other in real life, would they be as formidable?
Jackie Chan's unexpected location
To find the answer to this question, some Chinese newspapers such as Sohu, Toutiao, Sina ... have ranked the combat abilities of famous martial arts actors to create a reference base.
This ranking is compiled based on many factors such as actual martial arts background, competition record, fighting ability, training experience and closeness to reality in fighting techniques.

Ranked 10th in the top best martial arts stars is "Wong Fei Hung" Eddie Peng. The actor born in 1982 started out in idol dramas, and only learned martial arts when he started to turn to martial arts films. Therefore, Eddie Peng is not really highly regarded for his combat abilities.
Right above him is cinema legend Jackie Chan. The 71-year-old actor is considered "only good at performing and not inclined towards fighting ability". In fact, that is true, because the martial arts scenes in Jackie Chan's movies are very beautiful and heavy on performance. There are many acrobatic scenes.
Another Chinese film legend, Jet Li, ranked 8th (right above Jackie Chan). "Zhang Sanfeng" Jet Li is known as a wushu fighter, but he is considered to lack combat experience.
However, many people expressed doubts about this position, because in Jet Li's films, the scenes are quite intense and powerful.
Master Sammo Hung is also not highly regarded.
Another name is Shi Xiaolong, an actor from Shaolin Temple, ranked 7th. Although he has been practicing martial arts since childhood, Shi Xiaolong's martial arts are also focused on performance. Ranked 6th is actor Sammo Hung, as he is knowledgeable in many martial arts such as Nam Quyen, Hung Gia Quyen, Bac Pho...

Although Sammo Hung does not compete professionally, he has trained with real fighters, directed hundreds of action scenes, and directly directed real-life combat scenes.
He deserves to be a giant in the martial arts village of Chinese cinema. Therefore, Hung Kim Bao's 6th place still does not make many people feel satisfied.
Ranked 5th and 4th in the rankings are actors Truong Tan and Luu Hai Long. Ranked 3rd is actor Trieu Van Trac, a Chinese wushu champion.
Trieu Van Trac has good techniques, classical martial arts standards but his combat experience is not too outstanding. In second place is "Ip Man" Donnie Yen - a person proficient in MMA, martial arts such as taekwondo, boxing, and Wing Chun.
According to Toutiao's assessment: "Donnie Yen is the first person to bring MMA to Chinese films. He learned martial arts in America, and is the only actor who has done in-depth research on modern combat."
Ngo Kinh is number 1

At the top of the list of best combat actors is Wu Jing. The actor from "Sát Phá Lang" is proficient in Sanshou and Wushu. Wu Jing won the National Wushu Gold Medal, trained in Beijing, and is considered a "true martial artist".
Sohu newspaper commented: "Ngo Kinh is not only a good actor, he is also a real martial artist with many years of training and competition. That has been clearly shown through the movie Sat Pha Lang ".
