According to the Ho Chi Minh City infectious disease surveillance system, from mid-April to now, there have been 40 Covid-19 cases treated at hospitals in the area.

Notably, during the week of May 5-11 (week 19), the entire city had 16 reported cases, an increase of 10 cases compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks (6 cases/week). However, all cases were mild and did not require respiratory support.

Since the beginning of 2025, the city has recorded a total of 51 Covid-19 cases, including 29 inpatients and 22 outpatients. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of cases has decreased by 83%. In the first 14 weeks of the year, the number of cases recorded each week fluctuated between 1-2 cases. However, starting from week 15 (mid-April), the number of weekly cases has tended to increase significantly. However, the city has not yet recorded any outbreaks.

The situation in Ho Chi Minh City reflects the global trend, with the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths on the decline. The World Health Organization (WHO) has so far not recorded any new worrying variants of SARS-CoV-2. In Vietnam, Covid-19 has been classified as an endemic infectious disease, causing respiratory illness similar to other seasonal viruses.

However, according to the health sector, the increase in travel, community interaction and participation in festivals in recent times is a factor that has pushed up the number of cases slightly. Although there have been no serious cases, the epidemic can still have a certain impact on people's lives, especially at-risk groups such as the elderly, people with underlying diseases or young children.

Faced with new developments, the City Department of Health recommends that people continue to take basic disease prevention measures:

*Wear a mask when going to medical facilities, crowded public places or when using public transport.

*Wash your hands regularly with soap or sanitizer; cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and do not spit indiscriminately.

*Maintain a reasonable diet, increase physical activity to improve resistance; proactively monitor your health, especially when you have symptoms of cough, fever, and difficulty breathing.

*You should contact a medical facility for timely advice and examination.

*People returning from countries with epidemics need to monitor their health and take measures to prevent infection to protect themselves and the community.
