Demolition of 78 illegal apartments at Muong Thanh Da Nang

The Muong Thanh hotel complex project and Son Tra luxury apartment building are invested by Dien Bien Construction Private Enterprise No. 1 (Muong Thanh Group) with a scale of 42 floors above ground and 2 basements.

However, this company arbitrarily changed the function and turned 4 floors into 104 apartments. In addition, on floors 25, 35, 41 and 42, there were also many illegal construction items.

In early December 2019, the People's Committee of Ngu Hanh Son district announced a plan to enforce illegal construction with the investor of this project.

In March 2021, the People's Committee of Ngu Hanh Son District continued to issue a plan to enforce the demolition of illegal constructions. However, in the same month, the district announced a temporary suspension of enforcement due to the enterprise's request to voluntarily dismantle the construction.

Regarding this illegal construction project, at the first quarter 2023 press conference of the Da Nang City People's Committee, Mr. Le Van Tuan - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction - said that according to regulations, the city assigned the People's Committee of Ngu Hanh Son District to carry out the forced demolition.

However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the implementation was postponed. Up to now, the investor has dismantled 50% of the illegal items, with about 78 apartments.

According to Dan Tri reporters, in recent days, many workers have been dismantling illegal items on the 2nd, 3rd and 5th floors of the building. Each floor has 26 apartments, all of which have been completely dismantled, and some valuable items have been transported elsewhere.

The representative of the apartment management board said that the demolition was initially difficult due to negotiations with customers who had purchased the illegal apartments. After successful negotiations, the investor bought them back at a price nearly double the previous selling price.

After demolition, the 5th floor of the building will be used as a kindergarten and community center, and the 2nd floor of the building will be used as a parking lot.

The demolition was carried out carefully to avoid affecting other households in the apartment building.
