The Conjuring 4 , which currently has no official title, is in the works. Michael Chaves, who directed the third installment ( The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It , 2021), is returning to direct this latest installment.
The Conjuring 4 is the final film in the main series of the Conjuring franchise, because there are other derivative series such as The Nun , Annabelle . In addition to Michael Chaves returning to his old role in the new project, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the screenwriter of part 3, continues to write the script for part 4. Director James Wan, the father of the brand, sits in the production chair of the project with filmmaker Peter Safran.
The Conjuring franchise will end with part 4
The plot of the new project has not been revealed by New Line Cinema, but the film will once again focus on the journey of decoding the spiritual code of two psychics, Ed Warren and Lorrain Warren. In the previous three films, these two characters were played by two artists, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. The project is expected to start filming in Atlanta, Georgia, USA this summer.
Although The Conjuring is a "heavyweight" horror franchise that started off very well, with little investment but big profits (the first part released in 2013 cost $20 million and earned $320 million worldwide), over time, this franchise has been "squeezed" to the point of running out of ideas. The sequels and spin-offs are all similar, with repetitive plots. Part 3 received a score of only 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, receiving "rotten tomatoes".
It is not yet clear whether the producer is planning a completely new project in The Conjuring "universe" because after all, this brand is still the "golden goose" for the producer. The total box office revenue of the main film series plus the derivative films has exceeded 2.1 billion USD. This number seems large, but if you consider each film separately, it is not too high, for example, Nun II (the latest film in this "universe") released in September 2023 earned a modest 270 million USD worldwide.
