Accordingly, at around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, in the area in lane 7 Giang Van Minh, a phenomenon of a mixture of mud and water overflowing to the ground surface occurred during the construction of TBM tunnel No. 2 at tunnel circle No. 816 (1,224m from Station S09-Kim Ma) at a depth of 15m below ground level, belonging to Package CP03 - Tunnel and underground station construction of the Nhon- Hanoi Railway Station Urban Railway Project.
As soon as the above phenomenon was discovered, the investor, supervision consultant, contractor and local authorities were present at the scene to coordinate and supervise the handling work. The project mobilized 30 personnel and 5 sludge suction trucks, specialized equipment, sandbags and materials, and temporarily fenced off the area to conduct zoning, collection, sludge treatment, cleaning the area of the erupted mud mixture, and closely monitored all TBM construction activities.
As of 7:40 p.m. on September 8, the mudflow has been controlled and remediation work is still underway.
MRB leaders shared that, drawing on previous experience, the control of the impact of the mudflow this time was implemented more quickly, the area affected by the mudflow was isolated and narrowed. No damage to people or surrounding structures or infrastructure was recorded. Therefore, this time, the contractor promptly detected and handled the situation faster, mobilized forces and equipment to isolate and collect mud, minimizing the impact on people's lives and the surrounding environment.

The preliminary cause was determined by MRB, during the tunnel construction process, passing through an area with complex geological conditions where there was a loose layer of alluvial soil, old water well locations, old drainage pipes that are no longer in use... creating a path for the mud mixture to overflow to the ground surface.
The monitoring of the ground and surface works, the technical parameters of the tunnel boring machine have been continuously deployed throughout the tunnel boring process. Currently, the adjustments to the technical parameters of the tunnel boring have been adjusted according to the construction method, and are qualified to continue construction under the close supervision of the supervision consultant and the investor.
In the coming time, the project will study comments and assessments from professional agencies, adjust TBM construction/operation parameters to suit geological layers to minimize possible impacts.
