On the afternoon of December 4, at Chonburi Stadium (Thailand), a press conference was held for Women's Football SEA Games 2025 - Group B with the participation of 4 teams - Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Philippines.
Representing the Vietnamese women’s team, coach Mai Duc Chung said that the Vietnamese team is rejuvenating strongly and has 1.5 months to prepare. “Some older players are injured, so we are giving opportunities to many young faces. They are making progress and we are supporting them to become more mature,” said coach Mai Duc Chung.

Evaluating the group, he emphasized that the Southeast Asian women's football teams have all made progress. The large investment has significantly narrowed the gap in skill level between the teams and Group B is very balanced. In terms of strength, the Vietnamese women's team lacked Chuong Thi Kieu, Duong Thi Van... but still maintained a spirit of solidarity and even playing style.
“We don’t have stars, but a united team. Huynh Nhu is still the exemplary captain. When I returned to Chonburi Stadium, I remembered the moment Huynh Nhu scored in the final match to help Vietnam win the AFF Cup 2019. It was a beautiful memory, but now we have to focus on the SEA Games,” Coach Mai Duc Chung affirmed.

Coach Mai Duc Chung highly appreciated all opponents: “I do not consider Malaysia a weak team. They are improving quickly. We have to focus on solving each match and the ultimate goal is still to reach the final”. During the preparation process, the team played friendly matches with many strong opponents, thereby increasing their confidence. “Myanmar and the Philippines have both received strong investment. We have to be more determined”, said Coach Mai Duc Chung.
Group B is considered the group of death in the 33rd SEA Games Women's Football competition as Malaysia and Myanmar teams still maintain a stable force, while the Philippines has a squad with many naturalized players. The Vietnamese women's team is currently in a transition period, with many young players needing time to nurture and develop.
The first match of the Vietnamese women's team at the 33rd SEA Games will be against the Malaysian women's team on the afternoon of December 5. Then, coach Mai Duc Chung's team will face the Philippines and Myanmar on December 8 and 11, respectively.
