The Envoy international English test with AI support will take place online, giving results in two hours, with scores converted according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (from A1 to C2).
IDP, the co-owner of the IELTS test, on November 21 launched Envoy, a new online English language test designed by language experts with the help of AI (artificial intelligence). The test is expected to start being administered in early 2024.
The test assesses four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing in 90 minutes. Candidates will receive their test results converted to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) within two hours, according to information on Envoy English .
In the Listening section, candidates will listen to recordings and answer a series of questions. This section assesses the candidate's ability to follow a conversation, monologue and understand or interpret information.
In the Reading section, candidates must read two to four passages of text to measure their ability to understand meaning, main ideas, and details.
Speaking tests communication skills in real-life situations through five open-ended questions. Students must generate ideas and express them through vocabulary, text and grammar knowledge.
The Writing section requires students to write emails and a comprehensive essay, assessing their ability to form and express ideas through the use of vocabulary, grammar, structure and style.

To ensure security, IDP offers a number of solutions such as email verification and photo recognition; facial and eye movement tracking; multiple voice recognition; preventing switching to another tab while taking the test.
According to the organization, decades of experience combined with advanced AI technology will help give a "real indication" of a candidate's English ability.
The test's open-ended questions are designed to assess English language and communication skills in a real-life setting. The test results can also be used for entry level, progress or overall assessment purposes.
The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the English testing industry over the past few years. Currently, there are many online English tests in the world such as IELTS, Duolingo, LanguageCert, PSI, Trinity, iTEP, Pearson... Many of these certificates are accepted by universities for admission.
IDP is the world leader in international education services, including IELTS. It works with more than 890 universities and educational institutions across Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA.
