'The Boy and the Heron' is the first animated film to dominate the North American box office

The latest box office update from the North American market shows that director Hayao Miyazaki's film The Boy and the Heron topped the box office here with a revenue of 3.1 million USD on December 8 (local time), according to Box Office Mojo. The film's opening revenue in the last 3 days in this market fluctuated from 10 to 11 million USD, foreign press commented that this is the first time in history that an anime work has dominated the box office.

On its first day in North America, the film earned a very good amount: $5.6 million from 2,205 theaters, including early screening fees, not accounting for inflation. The film The Boy and the Heron marks the return to the big screen of the legendary Hayao Miyazaki (now 82 years old) after more than a decade of "hiding", since the work The Wind Rises . The work tells the story of a boy's adventures with a talking heron, set in post-war Japan. The film currently receives a very good score on Rotten Tomatoes with 96%, certified "fresh".

Japanese films dominate North American box office

Godzilla Minus One is currently showing in North American theaters and is also doing well at the box office.

The North American film market last weekend witnessed the "rise" of Japanese films, because in addition to The Boy and the Heron , the war and monster film Godzilla Minus One by director Takashi Yamazaki ranked behind its "compatriot" with a revenue of 2.25 million USD. 2 Japanese films topped the box office chart on December 8, with Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé in 3rd place with a revenue of 1.6 million USD.
