Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered flags to be flown at the state capitol during Donald Trump's inauguration next week, despite the White House's request to fly flags nationwide until the end of January in honor of the late former President Jimmy Carter.

"While honoring the service of a former president, we must also celebrate a president who is about to take office and welcome America's bright future," NBC News quoted the Republican governor of Texas and ally of Donald Trump as saying on January 14. Trump's inauguration will take place on January 20.
Previously, on the day Jimmy Carter passed away on December 29, 2024, President Joe Biden said that in accordance with regulations for funerals of former presidents, the White House and federal and public buildings across the United States would fly flags at half-staff for a total of 30 days.
The White House has not commented on the Texas Governor's directive.
