Dong Khe tunnel on Dong Dang - Tra Linh highway opened 2 months ahead of schedule

On December 7, the nearly 500m long Dong Khe tunnel was officially dug, 2 months ahead of schedule, marking an important milestone in the PPP project to invest in the Dong Dang (Lang Son) - Tra Linh ( Cao Bang ) expressway.

Responding to the Prime Minister 's call for construction to "overcome the sun, overcome the rain", "3 shifts, 4 shifts", "if there is not enough work during the day, take advantage of working at night", at the Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway PPP Investment Project, the Project Enterprise and contractors mobilized 1,132 personnel, 398 pieces of equipment and machinery and deployed 32 construction teams simultaneously 24/7, aiming to open the route in 2025.

The total construction output of the Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway PPP Project has so far reached 630 billion VND/10,056.85 billion VND, reaching 6.26%, meeting the set schedule.

Previously, on November 26, the right branch of Dong Khe tunnel was dug and cleared, the first item to complete the excavation and reinforcement work at Dong Dang – Tra Linh expressway project. To complete the excavation of the two tunnel branches, the team of engineers and workers overcame many challenges, especially geological ones, achieving an average construction speed of 2.86 meters/day.

Immediately after the Dong Khe tunnel is cleared, the team of engineers and workers will carry out the next steps such as digging the foundation, reinforcing, installing formwork to pour concrete for the tunnel lining, and installing the ITS equipment system.

According to the representative of the General Contractor of the project, the Northeast mountainous region, especially provinces such as Cao Bang and Lang Son , possesses towering limestone mountains and dense cave systems. Despite great efforts, encountering complex geological terrain at the construction site of the Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway PPP Project is still a risk that must always be anticipated and have technical solutions to ensure construction safety and project quality.

In terms of technology, the contractors applied the NATM method “Deo Ca system” – an advanced and flexible tunneling technique, suitable for many different geological types. The modern equipment system of Deo Ca Group, such as self-propelled drilling machines and sprayers, was also used, bringing high efficiency and safety during the construction process.

At the Dong Dang – Tra Linh Expressway PPP Project, implementing the Prime Minister's direction at the project groundbreaking ceremony on supporting local human resource training, last November, Deo Ca Group completed the Deo Ca Practical Training Center to develop local human resources.

The goal of establishing the Center is to provide a training model to improve practical capacity for workers, practical training for engineers and operations for managers. In addition to being trained in advanced construction technology such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), students of the Center also have access to green technology applications... in transport infrastructure.

The center is both a training facility for locally recruited workers and a recruitment center for local human resources for training and eventual recruitment. Once operational, it will not only be a training facility, but also a modern laboratory, enabling students to practice advanced technology models.

The PPP project to invest in the Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway has a total length of 121 km, and is divided into 2 investment phases.

Phase 1, Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway is invested with a length of more than 93km, including 2 main tunnels. The starting point is at Tan Thanh border gate intersection (Van Lang district, Lang Son province). The end point is at National Highway 3 intersection (Chi Thao commune, Quang Hoa district, Cao Bang province). Phase 1 project has a total investment of more than 14,300 billion VND, with Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee as the competent State agency, Deo Ca Group as the leading investor of the consortium implementing the project.

In phase 2, the project will continue to invest in the remaining 28km of Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway connecting to Tra Linh border gate.

The PPP project to invest in the Dong Dang – Tra Linh Expressway is expected to create a new vital international expressway connecting international trade, contributing to improving competitiveness, creating momentum for socio-economic development, and national security and defense of the locality and the whole country.
