Many types of pesticides of unknown origin were seized at Bac Ha and Coc Ly markets.

From May 10 to 23, Market Management Team No. 3 (Provincial Market Management Department) inspected markets and discovered and seized many types of pesticides and herbicides of unknown origin being sold.

Specifically, through inspections at Coc Ly market (Coc Ly commune) and Bac Ha cultural market, the force seized more than 29 kg of small-packaged powdered pesticides and more than 4 liters of liquid pesticides from business households, and imposed administrative fines totaling VND21 million.

Pesticides seized from businesses at the market are all products of unknown origin, not on the list of products permitted for use in Vietnam.

According to records, pesticides sold at the market come in many types and designs, and the packaging, bottles, and bags all have Chinese characters.

Previously, at the end of March 2023, the Provincial People's Committee issued Document No. 1083 on strengthening the management of plant protection drugs in the province.

According to the assessment, the current reality in border districts is that the business, trade and use of smuggled pesticides, especially smuggled herbicides, is taking place complicatedly in highland markets, shops, individual businesses... affecting people's health, causing unsafe use and polluting the environment.

To rectify and strengthen the management of plant protection drugs, especially the management of smuggling, trading, and market circulation of plant protection drugs in accordance with the provisions of law, ensuring safety and effectiveness, the Provincial People's Committee requests departments, branches, functional agencies and localities to direct specialized agencies, People's Committees of communes, wards and towns and mass media agencies in the area to propagate to the people not to smuggle, assist in smuggling, store, transport, trade and use smuggled plant protection drugs; limit the use of plant protection drugs, when really necessary, only use drugs in the list of plant protection drugs permitted for use in Vietnam... At the same time, strictly handle according to the provisions of law for violations in the business, trading and market circulation of plant protection drugs.
