On May 21, the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) announced that it had issued a decision to revoke the validity of the product declaration registration certificate for many health food products.
This decision was made after the companies submitted documents requesting to withdraw their applications related to health food products.
Specifically, Nam Viet Biotechnology Joint Stock Company ( Khanh Hoa ) requested to withdraw documents related to 10 products, including: Enterbacillus liquid probiotics, BIOLAC PLUS probiotic granules, MELATONINB6, BIOLAC FORT, NEOTUBE... It is known that the enterprise proactively proposed to stop circulating the above products since the beginning of May.
Similarly, two products Sadi Slim Plus of Hoang Huy Organic Trading and Development Company Limited ( Hanoi ) and Chocodiet of Loewy Brand Company Limited (Ho Chi Minh City, now renamed Staywell Trading Company Limited) also had their declaration papers revoked at the request of the business.
According to current regulations, health protection foods that want to be legally circulated on the market must have a certificate of product declaration registration issued by the Department of Food Safety. However, Decree 15/2018/ND-CP did not clearly stipulate the withdrawal procedure in case the enterprise proactively withdraws the application, leading to some documents requesting withdrawal from 2023 only being resolved recently after receiving guidance from the Ministry of Health.
Previously, in October 2023, Abbott Healthcare Vietnam Co., Ltd. also sent a document requesting a voluntary recall of 18 products due to “no longer having a production and business plan”. This situation shows a trend of businesses adjusting their product portfolio and restructuring their operations to suit the increasingly strict market and legal requirements.
Although most recalls are voluntary, according to the Ministry of Health, recently, authorities have discovered many violations related to fake and poor quality functional foods, forcing them to be recalled and destroyed. The Ministry will continue to strengthen inspections and checks, especially at production and business establishments and on e-commerce platforms, requiring transparency of invoices and documents, and tightening control of the supply chain.
