Digital transformation of agriculture and rural areas
The “Smart Village” model has been deployed, contributing to improving the quality of life for people. These are important steps in the process of building digital government, developing digital economy and forming digital society, creating many utilities on digital technology platforms.
Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee, said that the establishment of the "Smart Village" model in Dong Thap aims to promote development and improve the quality of life of rural people, develop sustainable production, and create products with high economic value. People have a livable space, are connected and enjoy better social services and utilities, use resources more efficiently and reduce environmental impacts.
Tan Thuan Tay Commune, Cao Lanh City is the first locality in the province to be selected to implement the Research Project on building a "Smart Village" model. This is a national-level scientific project, approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and chaired by the University of Science and Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
The construction of the "Smart Village" model was developed from the Farmers' Association in Tan Thuan Tay commune to develop agricultural production, improve the lives of local people in the context of adapting to climate change, and replace old farming methods with smart farming methods.
Mr. Dang Van Nhung, Chairman of Tam Que Hoi Quan, said that it was from the Hoi Quan model that the "Smart Village" Project in Tan Thuan Tay commune was formed. Currently, Tan Thuan Tay commune has an area of 500 hectares of mango trees, each tree is attached with a QR code to trace its origin. In addition, people also know how to grow mangoes in different seasons, VietGAP mangoes, organic mangoes... to adapt to the market, link production, and increase value.
People also know how to do community tourism to promote the value of local resources, and know how to apply advanced science and technology in production as well as in daily life.
Currently, the "Smart Village" model in Tan Thuan Tay commune has an electronic information portal for the Association; a central data storage and analysis system for the "Smart Village"; an environmental monitoring system model (gas and soil monitoring); an automatic irrigation system (using solar energy); a security camera surveillance system, a smart public lighting system, a mobile application for Association members and for management, a database of mango cultivation logs, etc.
Applying digital technology to agricultural production
In My Xuong commune, Cao Lanh district, in addition to implementing the criteria of “Smart Village”, the locality also implements the “E-commerce Commune” model to gradually apply digital technology to agricultural production. This model helps build information data, ensure products have clear origins, and increase consumer trust. Product consumption is expanded through both direct and indirect sales, combined with non-cash payment methods.
Mr. Tran Phu Hau, a farmer in My Xuong commune, said that applying technology to production helps save time and costs, optimize cultivation, easily monitor product quality and increase output value thanks to traceability. “Previously, products were mainly consumed in the retail market, but now we can put our mangoes on e-commerce platforms, expanding business opportunities and reaching customers outside the locality,” said Mr. Hau.
In addition, since the security camera system was installed at key traffic intersections and crowded areas, the local security and safety situation has become more stable.
The Department of Science and Technology of Dong Thap province is continuing to invest in developing digital technology infrastructure, improving human resources and digital skills in "Smart Villages"; focusing on developing smart agricultural economic models, supporting policies and cooperation from organizations and businesses.
In addition, the Department of Science and Technology promotes cooperation with institutes, schools and enterprises to research and transfer practical technology solutions, focusing on production management, energy-saving equipment, especially smart agricultural models to meet the practical needs of rural people.
