In an official statement sent to stakeholders, Olympic Council of Asia Director General Husain Al Musallam said: The Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China will take place from April 22 to 30, 2026.
Previously, Sanya, China was scheduled to host the sixth Asian Beach Games in 2020 but was canceled due to the global pandemic.
“I am pleased to announce that, during the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia in Kuwait, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Chinese Olympic Committee met and unanimously decided to resume the Asian Beach Games in Sanya (which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic),” said OCA President Husain.
Detailed competition schedule as well as other logistical information will be announced soon.
The letter was sent to the members of the Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Asia, Vice Presidents of the Asian Games Host Cities, Chairmen of the Standing Committees of the Olympic Council of Asia, members of the Honorary Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Asia and Presidents/Secretaries General of the National Olympic Committees of the Olympic Council of Asia.
The Olympic Council of Asia's Asian Beach Games were first held in Bali (Indonesia) in 2008, followed by Muscat (Oman) in 2010, Hai Duong (China) in 2012; Phuket (Thailand) in 2014 and Da Nang (Vietnam) in 2016.
The Asian Beach Games have always proved attractive to host cities as they contribute to promoting tourism as well as creating a fun atmosphere, aiming at connection in natural and sustainable conditions.
