According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , at the invitation of President Luong Cuong , Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas and his wife will pay an official visit to Vietnam from May 27 to 29.

This is the second head-of-state delegation to Vietnam in less than a week (after the delegation of French President Emmanuel Macron) and both countries are members of the European Union (EU).

For Hungary , this is also Mr. Sulyok Tamas's first visit to Vietnam as president. His visit to Hanoi just over a year after taking office in March 2024 also shows his interest in developing the Vietnam - Hungary Comprehensive Partnership.

The visit is even more meaningful as it takes place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950 - 2025).

Hungary is one of the first countries in the world to officially recognize and establish relations with Vietnam. Over the past 75 years, bilateral relations have witnessed many historical ups and downs, with Hungary's valuable support and assistance to Vietnam in the cause of national defense and construction.

With a long-standing traditional friendship, the Vietnamese community in Hungary is relatively large, with about 6,000 people, mainly concentrated in the capital Budapest. This is also a bridge of friendship for the relationship between the two countries, contributing to the positive development of other areas of cooperation.

The Comprehensive Partnership established in 2018 has opened a new stage of development, with trade turnover continuously increasing from 2018 (645.4 million USD) to 2022 (more than 1.2 billion USD).

Two-way trade turnover decreased to 848.2 million USD in 2023, but quickly regained growth momentum, reaching 932 million USD in 2024. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides are expected to hold the 10th meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation between the two countries in Hanoi in July 2025, after a 6-year interruption.

Regarding investment, up to now, Hungary has 21 valid FDI projects in Vietnam, with a total registered capital of 50.66 million USD, ranking 52nd out of 149 countries and territories with direct investment in our country.

During his visit to Vietnam, Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas is expected to attend an official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, hold talks with President Luong Cuong and meet with other senior leaders of Vietnam.

Hungary is ready to train nuclear power plant operators for Vietnam.

Last March, during his working trip to Vietnam, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. At the meeting, Mr. Peter Szijjártó affirmed that his country has 50 years of experience operating nuclear power plants using Russian technology.

Therefore, Hungary is ready to cooperate and help train Vietnamese experts in operating nuclear power plants and considers this a strategic area of cooperation between the two countries.
