Chinese smartphone exports to the US fell about 70% in April from a year earlier, data from China's customs bureau showed, amid a tariff dispute between the world's two largest economies .
Shipments of Apple iPhones and other smartphones from China to the United States totaled $688.5 million in April, marking the lowest level since 2011.
In early April, the administration of US President Donald Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs on imports, including smartphones, from major trading partners.
Mr. Trump then raised tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%. By the end of the month, the U.S. announced reciprocal exemptions for smartphones and other electronics, but said they would still be subject to the semiconductor tariffs.
To cope with high tariffs, Apple plans to move part of its iPhone assembly line from China to India.
However, it is reported that President Trump has expressed to Apple CEO Tim Cook that he does not want Apple to build an iPhone factory in India and urged the technology giant to manufacture devices in the US./.
