“I was very surprised and could not believe that I became the valedictorian of the D block nationwide graduating from high school in 2024. When comparing the exam results, I just thought that maybe I would become the valedictorian of the whole school,” Nguyen Phuong Linh, a student of class 12A12, Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted, Vinh Phuc province, shared with Dan Viet newspaper reporters after achieving success in the 2024 high school graduation exam.

In the D01 group, Phuong Linh achieved a perfect score of 10 in English, 9 in Math and 9.75 in Literature, for a total score of 28.75. In other subjects, the female student also achieved impressive scores such as: History 9, Geography 9.75 and Civic Education 9.5.

Phuong Linh commented: “For the D group exam subjects, I found the questions to be highly differentiated. When approaching the questions, I also had certain difficulties, but I kept calm to try to handle difficult questions and manage my time effectively.”

Revealing her study secrets, the top student in block D said: “Every student has their own secrets. For me, I always spend my time in class effectively and optimally to absorb new knowledge from teachers. Concentrating and actively listening in class is a very good first step, a foundation for me to review more in-depth knowledge later on.

As for English, because I am an English major, I already have a foundation. I did not spend too much time reviewing this subject in the high school graduation exam. I have a few small notes for English: in addition to reviewing basic knowledge to perfect grammar and reading comprehension skills to get the maximum score, I have to read about idioms. I think this is a part that I find quite risky in my exam.

With the secret of proactive and confident learning, in 3 years of high school, Phuong Linh has brought home some impressive achievements: Second prize for excellent students in the province in English for grade 10, Third prize for excellent students in the province in grades 11 and 12, Silver medal in the national English Olympic exam on the internet, IELTS 8.0 in grade 11.

“This achievement is not only my own effort but also the effort of my family and teachers. My parents have always accompanied, supported and encouraged me. My mother is a literature teacher, my father is the one who oriented my career. My homeroom teacher wholeheartedly helped us review and gain experience in the mock exams and the official high school graduation exam in 2024,” Linh said.

Admitted to many universities

The national top student of Block D commented that she is both an introvert and an extrovert, but is more introverted. Linh sets goals and tries to achieve them. In addition, Linh also balances studying and playing. Linh's hobbies are photography, cooking and playing the piano.

Currently, Phuong Linh has been admitted early to the Logistics and Supply Chain Management major of the Foreign Trade University, the International Relations major of the Diplomatic Academy, the English Language major of the University of Foreign Languages. In addition, Linh also won a 75% tuition scholarship from the British University Vietnam - a 50% tuition scholarship from Fulbright University and a 250 million VND scholarship from Swinburne University, a 70% tuition scholarship from VinUni University for majors in Economics.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, the homeroom teacher and also the Literature teacher of class 12A12, said: “I am happy and proud because my student has received a well-deserved achievement for his efforts and struggles during the 3 years of study, especially in grade 12.

Phuong Linh is a smart student who doesn't study too much. Looking at the way she studies, teachers and friends feel that studying is easy, fun and interesting. In Literature, Linh is a capable student: logical thinking, strong writing ability, fast writing speed, beautiful handwriting, smooth expression, rich in literary quality. However, there are times when, due to distraction, she makes elementary and simple mistakes in her writing that startle the teacher. At times like that, the teacher and student sit down and talk privately and she listens with a humble, receptive attitude. From there, she gradually improves her knowledge and skills to get a Literature score of 9.75 in the recent high school graduation exam."

It is known that in the recent high school graduation exam, class 12A12 achieved an average score of 9.22 in Literature, of which 12 scored 9.5 or higher.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen shared: “I have been teaching Literature and working as a homeroom teacher at Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted for 23 years and have also taught Literature and been the homeroom teacher of class 12A12 for 3 years. There are many secrets to achieving high academic achievement in all aspects of education for students, including external and internal causes.

However, there is a root cause, capable of containing all the surface and deep causes, and for me, that is love for my students. Of course, this love must be innocent, selfless, sincere, complete and profound. Because when teachers love their students like that, it will bring about two very beneficial effects for good educational results.

Firstly, it is the love for students that makes every development of student education become a constant, painful concern of teachers, and it is in this state that teachers will create the most suitable and effective educational plans at the overall and detailed levels for the whole class as well as for each case with the specific characteristics of both the ability and awareness of each student in the class. Thus, it is the love for students that has transformed into a genuine and lasting passion for education for teachers.

Second, the teachers' deep and complete love for their students and their solid professional qualifications will create an extremely positive energy field in the educational interaction between teachers and students. From there, teachers will gain the respect and absolute trust of students, and once students have wholeheartedly believed in them, all of the teachers' planned educational plans will be applied and implemented with the highest determination from students with the voluntary mindset that they must learn in a way that does not disappoint their teachers. When teachers see that they receive the voluntary and positive educational cooperation of students in a unified manner on a class-wide scale, realizing high educational goals will become extremely easy.
