Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang visits and works in Cambodia

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and the delegation worked with leaders of Preah Sihanouk province.

On December 28, 2024, at the headquarters of Preah Sihanouk province, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and the Vietnamese delegation had a working session with the Governor of Preah Sihanouk province, Mr. Mang Sineth and leaders of departments, branches and sectors of the province.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang congratulated the achievements of the province in recent times, becoming a driving force for economic and tourism development in the southwestern coastal region of Cambodia and shared with the provincial leaders that recently Preah Sihanouk province has become one of the attractive tourist destinations for Vietnamese people. At the same time, the Deputy Minister highly appreciated the economic activities between the two countries taking place vigorously and dynamically with more than 40 Vietnamese enterprises currently investing in Preah Sihanouk province, agreeing to promote cooperation commensurate with the potential and favorable conditions of the province. The Deputy Minister also emphasized that the traditional friendly neighborly relationship is developing well, the two sides maintain visits by high-ranking leaders as well as contacts between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries; emphasizing that local cooperation plays an important role in the overall comprehensive cooperation between the two countries; highly appreciated the cooperation in all aspects between Preah Sihanouk province and Vietnam, especially with localities with which Preah Sihanouk has close cooperative relations such as Kien Giang province, Bac Lieu province and Hai Phong city of Vietnam.

On the side of Preah Sihanouk province, Mr. Mang Sineth introduced the potential of Preah Sihanouk province, one of the four coastal provinces of Cambodia, with great potential for tourism, services, and transportation, with a convenient combined system of waterway, road, and air transport. He affirmed that the people of Cambodia and Vietnam are friends, brothers, and good neighbors, with a tradition of solidarity and have gone through many difficult and arduous periods together; he suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation to preserve and foster the relationship between the two countries to become increasingly deeper and forever sustainable. In order to continue promoting the positive achievements in the relationship between the two countries' localities in recent times, Mr. Mang Sineth, Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, suggested that the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinate with relevant agencies to call on Vietnamese enterprises, especially in Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Hai Phong provinces, to continue expanding trade and promoting investment in Preah Sihanouk.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang thanked the Preah Shihanouk government for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live stably in the province and creating a favorable environment for Vietnamese enterprises. The Deputy Minister suggested that the province and relevant authorities continue to pay attention and support legal documents for people of Vietnamese origin, create conditions for children of Vietnamese origin to go to school... thereby helping people of Vietnamese origin integrate and contribute to the locality, serving as a bridge for the friendly relations between the two countries. Recently, the Preah Shihanouk government has also closely and effectively coordinated with the Vietnamese Consulate General here, especially in rescuing Vietnamese citizens who were scammed into illegal online activities in the province and handing them over to the Vietnamese side.

The Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province assessed that the Vietnamese community living in the province in the past time has been conscious of complying with the law, ensuring security and order in the place of residence. In the coming time, Preah Sihanouk Province will ensure the implementation of general foreign policies on the basis of non-discrimination and compliance with local laws, continue to support and create conditions for Vietnamese people to reside legally and integrate into the local society in the spirit of commitments between the high-ranking leaders of the two countries. The leaders of Preah Sihanouk Province said that they will continue to create conditions for the activities of the KVA Association of Preah Sihanouk Province branch, gradually removing current difficulties for the Vietnamese community in the province.

On the morning of December 29, 2024, the delegation visited the headquarters of the KVA Association, Preah Sihanouk province branch. Talking to the Executive Committee of the Association, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang informed about the socio-economic situation in the country in 2024. Representatives of the Vietnamese community in Preah Sihanouk were delighted with the achievements that our country has achieved in the past year such as the outstanding increase in import and export turnover, the forecast of high GDP growth of over 6%, and the country's position in the international forum continues to be enhanced.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese community in Cambodia, including Preah Sihanouk province, has received special attention, support and affection from the Party and the State. The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the efforts and dedication of the Executive Committee of the Association over the past time, emphasizing the core role of the Association in connecting the community, promoting the propaganda and mobilizing people to comply with local laws, promoting the spirit of mutual love and support for each other to live stably, gradually integrate and develop. The Deputy Minister suggested that the Association further promote the results of the past time. First of all, the KVA Association of Preah Sihanouk province branch must be a strong organization, playing the role of a center for community solidarity, always standing side by side to support people in all aspects of life, increasing attraction and mobilizing people to participate in the Association and having programs and plans to propagate so that the community always complies with local laws, pays more attention to the education of children of Vietnamese origin, and fosters the will to rise up in life. Taking note of the recommendations of the Association and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work with domestic authorities and with the Cambodian side to find ways to resolve the difficulties and obstacles that our people are facing.

During the working session with Consul General Lai Xuan Chien and staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sihanoukville, the Deputy Minister praised the achievements of the staff of the Representative Office in recent times, especially in the work of protecting citizens and supporting the Vietnamese community in the area.
