At the meeting, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien requested that central and local agencies quickly deploy all solutions to treat livestock with diarrhea, minimize damage, prevent the disease from spreading, and ensure environmental hygiene.

Leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also listened to the opinions of experts, thereby directing agencies and units to focus on a number of key immediate tasks.

In particular, the Department of Animal Health and related units urgently refined and completed the official treatment regimen for sick cows to promptly disseminate to the people, together supporting people in treatment and preventing the spread of the disease.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, together with central agencies and leading livestock enterprises, will support medical supplies and medicines for Lam Dong province to treat sick cows.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien and the working delegation inspected and directed the implementation of diarrhea prevention for cattle infected with diarrhea.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien requested that agencies quickly determine the cause of the mass diarrhea in cows. In particular, it is necessary to determine the main cause and secondary cause to serve as a basis for determining compensation or support for future damages.

And, to ensure accuracy, the specialized agency needs to take more samples for testing from healthy cows, cows that have not been vaccinated against lumpy skin disease, cows that have been vaccinated but have not died, etc. After having an official conclusion, the Ministry will announce the cause.

On the local side, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has established a working group led by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Phuc to direct, operate and implement measures to prevent and control diarrhea in dairy cows.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that in the two districts of Duc Trong and Don Duong, working groups have also been established to promptly implement a number of key tasks such as: Concentrating human and material resources to rescue dairy cows; updating data daily for comparison and comparison; making records of the destruction of dead cows; supervising the destruction...

"In the short term, the phenomenon of cow deaths tends to decrease. We are continuing to closely monitor the situation, create a monitoring diagram to promptly handle and report. The top priority now is to minimize damage to people, and handle dead cows according to procedures, ensuring hygiene" - Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Phuc informed.

Cattle farmers are worried because the disease situation in cattle herds can cause serious economic damage.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong, the initial cause, through clinical examination, was that the cows had diarrhea possibly due to the weather in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts, which had been rainy for several weeks, the humid environment, combined with the cows' reduced resistance after being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease, creating conditions for opportunistic microorganisms to attack and cause digestive disorders.

Meanwhile, cattle farmers believe that the cause of the cattle's diarrhea and death is related to the lumpy skin disease vaccination, because most of the vaccinated cows got sick, while the unvaccinated cows remained healthy.

Authorities proceed to destroy cows that died from diarrhea.

According to the latest updated data, from 4:00 p.m. on August 9 to 9:00 a.m. on August 10, 2024, in Duc Trong district, there were 578 more dairy cows with diarrhea and 35 new households; 9 dairy cows died, of which Don Duong district had 8 cows and Duc Trong district had 1 cow. Accumulated to 9:00 a.m. on August 10, in Duc Trong and Don Duong districts, there were 4,495 calves and dairy cows of 237 households in 6 communes with the disease; 181 cows died (Duc Trong: 42 cows, Don Duong: 139 cows).
