Start a business from passion and proper investment
In early 2025, returning to his hometown with 200 million VND of his family's capital and savings after many years of working, Mr. Viet boldly built a 100m² factory, installed a modern insulation system, cooling system and automatic misting system. Not stopping there, he continued to borrow 250 million VND from the bank to invest in 10,000 mushroom spawn bags along with tools, equipment and machinery for on-site processing. The model of growing black termite mushrooms in cold rooms began to take shape from the determination and methodical investment of a young person who loves agriculture .
Mr. Viet shared: “Investing in a factory system is quite expensive, so at first I encountered many difficulties with capital. However, thanks to saving up a part, plus finding other sources, I was finally able to build the factory as desired.”
After many years of working for hire everywhere, in early 2025, Mr. Huynh Tan Viet (right cover) returned to his hometown and successfully started a business with a model of growing black termite mushrooms in a cold room.
To harvest at the right time and ensure quality standards, mushroom growers must regularly check and monitor the growth of mushrooms.
Each bag of spawn costs 16,500 VND, after about 40 days of care, the mushrooms begin to be harvested. In particular, this type of black termite mushroom is cared for according to the correct technical process so it grows very quickly. The peak time is from the 40th to the 85th day, each day he harvests 3 times: 6am, 2pm and 8pm. On average, his mushroom farm harvests 30-40kg of mushrooms each day.
Although there is an automatic support system to help mushrooms grow well, growers still have to regularly check and "watch each mushroom". From there, choose the exact time to harvest mushrooms in time so that the product meets standards, avoiding picking too early or too old, affecting quality. Each bag of spawn can be harvested continuously for 4 months, helping to maintain a stable source of income throughout the cycle.
Mr. Viet said: “The most difficult thing here is to regularly check the growth of the mushrooms, then harvest them to ensure quality. At first, because of lack of experience, there were cases where the mushrooms were too young or too old. After a while, everything went according to standard and ensured the best product quality.”
Spreading the spirit of entrepreneurship
Not only bringing high income to his family, Mr. Viet's black termite mushroom growing model also contributes to creating jobs for local people. After the mushroom farm had a stable harvest, in early May 2025, he established Viet Farm Cooperative and created regular jobs for 5 elderly workers in the area. With the work of processing and packaging mushrooms, it has brought an average income of 200,000 VND/person/day.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kiem in Hamlet 4, Loc Thuan Commune said: “The people working here are all older women, so it is very difficult to find work. Being called by Uncle Viet to do mushroom processing at home is also very easy. At my age, I am happy to be able to do this, and have extra income to help my children.”
Not only creating jobs, the model is also highly appreciated by the local government and the District Farmers' Association because it opens up a new direction in developing the agricultural economy in a collective and systematic way. According to Mr. Hoang Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Loc Ninh District Farmers' Association, Mr. Viet's establishment and operation of the cooperative is the right direction and needs to be replicated.
“Growing black termite mushrooms is a new direction, suitable for the current trend of high-tech agriculture. The model being implemented by Mr. Viet brings high economic efficiency and has stable output. We hope that many other farmer members will come here to learn this model to develop together.” Mr. HOANG NGOC ANH, Chairman of Farmers' Association of Loc Ninh district |
Currently, Mr. Viet's black termite mushroom products are purchased at home by traders at various prices: Grade 1 mushrooms range from 320-350 thousand VND/kg, grade 2 from 190-210 thousand VND/kg, grade 3 from 160-180 thousand VND/kg. If selling raw materials, the price is about 165 thousand VND/kg, a reasonable price to ensure profits for growers. After deducting expenses, his family earns a few million VND per day on average.
Mr. Viet added: If sold raw, it would be better, but the economic value is low, so I process it first before delivering. That not only increases profits but also creates jobs for some local workers.
Not stopping there, Mr. Viet is planning to expand the scale to 50,000 embryo bags in the near future. Replicating the model not only helps increase family income but also opens up opportunities for cooperation and spreading experience to many farming households in the area.
In addition to bringing economic benefits to his family, Mr. Viet's mushroom farm also creates jobs for many elderly workers in the locality.
From a young man who returned to his hometown to work for hire, Mr. Huynh Tan Viet has gradually built a modern and effective agricultural model right in the difficult border area. His story is a living testament to the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, knowing how to invest in the right direction, applying technology and taking advantage of local resources to get rich sustainably. Not only contributing to increasing income for himself and his family, his black termite mushroom growing model also opens up a new path for agriculture in Loc Ninh. A land that is gradually "changing its skin and flesh" thanks to young people full of enthusiasm and aspirations to rise up.
