Cambodian Deputy Minister of Health works in Ca Mau on cooperation in tuberculosis prevention and control

On the morning of December 1, the CENAT and KHANA (Cambodia) delegation visited the Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital of Ca Mau province to exchange expertise with representatives of the Vietnam National Tuberculosis Control Program and the local health sector.

Attending the meeting were Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Binh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Central Lung Hospital, Deputy Head of the Executive Board of the National Tuberculosis Control Program; Mr. Mao Tan Eang, Deputy Minister of Health of Cambodia; Mr. Oum Sopheap, Chairman of the KHANA Leadership Council; Mr. Chan Yuda Huot, Director of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Center of Cambodia; Dr. Tran Quang Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Ca Mau.

The meeting is an opportunity for the two countries to share experiences in detecting, managing and treating tuberculosis, and promote sustainable cooperation orientations between Vietnam and Cambodia, especially in controlling infectious diseases.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Mao Tan Eang affirmed that Cambodia is ready to accompany Vietnam, especially Ca Mau province, in TB prevention activities. He also expressed his desire to support localities in improving testing capacity, perfecting the reporting system, strengthening the implementation of latent TB preventive treatment and coordinating the development of community health models.

In recent years, the fight against tuberculosis in Ca Mau has recorded many positive results. In 2024 alone, the locality detected nearly 1,600 new positive cases of tuberculosis - showing the effectiveness of screening and early detection activities, contributing significantly to the goal of reducing the burden of tuberculosis.
