On May 21, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida rejected the possibility of preparing to dissolve the House of Representatives to hold an early election.

The denial comes amid growing speculation that he will do so after the conclusion of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima.

Since the beginning of the year, many lawmakers have predicted that Prime Minister Kishida might call a general election at the end of the Diet session until June 21 if his government's approval rating continues to rise after successfully hosting the G7 Summit.

The first G7 summit in Japan since 2016 comes about a month after his ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) won four of the five parliamentary seats up for grabs in by-elections, signaling growing support for the LDP.

The latest survey in late April showed the cabinet's approval rating rising again, reaching 46.6%.

Experts say this could be the result of Mr. Kishida's recent diplomatic successes, such as improving Japan's relations with South Korea.

Previously, a public opinion poll published by Nikkei newspaper in early May showed that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's approval rating exceeded 50% for the first time in the past 8 months.

The result has fueled speculation that Mr Kishida will call early elections.

According to the poll, about 52% of respondents support Prime Minister Kishida, up 4% from last month.

Meanwhile, two other polls also showed positive results in terms of support for the incumbent Prime Minister.

Professor Mieko Nakabayashi of Japan's Waseda University said the upcoming time is the best opportunity for Prime Minister Kishida to call for a Lower House election before the LDP presidential election in September 2024./.
