On behalf of the Standing Committee of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Council, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Quang Tuan expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to hold talks and exchange with the delegation of Salavan province.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan informed about the main features of Thua Thien Hue's socio -economic development in the first 10 months of 2024. Notably, Thua Thien Hue is focusing all its efforts on completing the goal of becoming a centrally-run city.

Regarding the activities of the People's Council, Mr. Tuan said that since the beginning of the term, the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province has successfully organized 27 meetings; passed 560 resolutions. The supervision and thematic survey activities of the People's Council, the Standing Committee of the People's Council, and the Provincial People's Council Committees continue to be strengthened, in accordance with the actual situation...

Regarding the cooperative relationship between Thua Thien Hue province and Salavan province, Mr. Tuan informed that the two sides continue to maintain high-level visits by leaders of the two provinces, as well as related sectors.

At the end of 2022, the leaders of the two provinces signed a cooperation agreement for the 2022-2026 period and maintained the good traditional friendship in many flexible forms...

In addition, Thua Thien Hue provided funding for the construction of a number of projects. Salavan supported and facilitated the search and collection of remains of martyrs, volunteer soldiers and Vietnamese experts who died in Salavan. Cooperation in education and human resource training has made much progress; the health sector continues to receive attention; cultural activities are also emphasized...

“During the cooperation process, there are still difficulties between the two provinces such as some projects are slow to implement; the traffic infrastructure system in the border area is not yet complete, trade activities in the border area are difficult, the import and export turnover of goods is still low; economic and tourism cooperation between the two sides has not yet developed; cooperation in education and training has not achieved the quality that both sides desire,” Mr. Tuan assessed.

At the meeting, Mr. Sy Heng - Hom Som Bat also informed about the socio-economic situation and outstanding People's Council activities of Salavan province.

Mr. Sy Heng - Hom Som Bat expressed his joy when the friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam was nurtured and deepened.

Regarding the cooperative relationship between Salavan Provincial People's Council and Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Council, Mr. Sy Heng - Hom Som Bat assessed that it is increasingly developing and maintaining, regularly exchanging delegations and experiences with each other on important topics of mutual interest...

Mr. Sy Heng - Hom Som Bat expressed his joy and pride in seeing the relationship between the two provinces continue to be nurtured.

“We agree with the assessment and proposal on the cooperation agreement between the two provinces, and at the same time hope that the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province will support the funding for the construction of the provincial People's Council hall and furnish the interior of the Salavan provincial People's Council library; provide funding for human resource training and improve the professional and theoretical qualifications of the Salavan provincial People's Council's staff,” Mr. Sy Heng - Hom Som Bat emphasized.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue sharing and exchanging working experiences in the activities of People's Councils at all levels in the coming time. Continue to effectively implement the contents of the agreement signed in 2022 between the leaders of the two provinces; strengthen political and diplomatic cooperation, improve the effectiveness of cooperative relations in all fields; soon have a policy to invest in the project, complete the route from A Kong, Salavan intersection to Hong Van - Co Tai border gate, 22 km long; study and propose to promote, expand and diversify trade promotion and logistics activities on the economic corridor through Chan May - Lang Co port; study to diversify the structure of export goods to increase opportunities for exporting goods from Thua Thien Hue province to Salavan and vice versa.
