The US Treasury Department said on July 11 that total US customs duty revenue rose to a record $27.2 billion in June as revenue from tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump began to take effect, combined with changes in the timing of revenue collection and spending, creating a $27 billion federal budget surplus this month.
According to the US Treasury Department, tariff revenue has increased steadily over the past three months and contributed to a 13% increase in total revenue in June, equivalent to $60 billion, to $526 billion, a record high for the month. Budget expenditures in June fell 7%, or $38 billion, to $499 billion.
The US Treasury Department said that after adjusting for calendar changes in some revenue and benefit payments, June will record a budget deficit of $70 billion.
Data shows that tariff revenue is starting to become a significant contributor to the budget, with customs duties quadrupling to $27.2 billion in gross value and $26.6 billion in net value after tax refunds in June.
