A post on the X app has received 10 million views and over 1,000 comments. The content is from a user named Tony, sharing about the Sanyo washing machine his family has used for 20 years but has never broken down.
“If you don’t pay attention, you’ve been using it for 20 years without any problems. This washing machine has a special function, clothes that are not too dirty can be washed without using detergent. Even though Sanyo company no longer exists, this washing machine continues to work durably,” Tony wrote.
Sanyo Electric is a Japanese brand that has developed many high-quality and durable home appliances. The company was once known as one of the “big guys” in the industry in this country, belonging to the “3S” group along with Sony and Sharp.
In the 2000s, the company's management situation deteriorated. Nine years later, Panasonic completed its $9 billion acquisition of Sanyo Electric, but ultimately decided to shrink the company's home appliance business. The Chinese conglomerate acquired the brand in 2011, but then discontinued it, and the Sanyo name officially became history.

Many of their products are still in use today. Tony told a local newspaper that both the production team and users have a deep connection with the products, and that they are very durable. However, the problem is that profits are decreasing as the products take longer to break down.

Many people long for the golden age of Japanese home appliances, and hope that one day they can restore it. However, current consumer trends favor cheap, easily accessible products, but in return, they are often less durable, easily broken, or quickly outdated.
