(CLO) On the afternoon of November 1, 2024, at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts ( Hanoi ), painter Pham Binh Chuong marked the 25th anniversary of choosing the path of realistic painting and the 20th anniversary of the artist's exhibition of the "Xuong pho" series of paintings only about Hanoi, with the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Xuong pho 4".

This is the 4th exhibition in the series “Going to the Street” (since 2004) and the 6th solo exhibition of the talented artist Pham Binh Chuong.

Starting his painting career with an abstract style, after much research, Pham Binh Chuong found himself in a realistic style, especially when painting realistically about Hanoi. It is no coincidence that friends and fans call Pham Binh Chuong "The painter of Hanoi's streets".

Over the past 20 years, Pham Binh Chuong has had four solo exhibitions on Hanoi streets.

Artist Pham Binh Chuong shares about the exhibition "Going to the street".

Sharing with reporters, artist Pham Binh Chuong said that he has many paintings about Hanoi that leave an impression on viewers. His talent lies not only in painting beautiful scenes of Hanoi, but also in stirring up in viewers special emotions of love for Hanoi.

“I want to depict the beauty of Hanoi as well as my love for Hanoi in a concise way so that viewers can feel the “smell” of Hanoi, including both the architectural beauty and the beauty of human life,” said artist Pham Binh Chuong.

According to artist Pham Binh Chuong, the capital city of Hanoi is changing day by day with many conflicts, but for him, those are peaceful conflicts. Therefore, the artist strongly exploited the above idea in 17 large-size oil paintings in this exhibition and he "put his soul" into each work.

Talking about the difference from previous “Xuong pho” exhibitions, artist Pham Binh Chuong said that the works on display this time show that Hanoi is changing slowly.

First are the feelings about a poetic, romantic Hanoi, when Hanoi in some places gradually loses its charm, Binh Chuong delves into this profound transformation.

These are the handwritings left on the “body” of Hanoi such as letters, signs, or the handwriting and drawings of Hanoians. Redrawing these handwritings helps viewers understand more deeply about the history, culture as well as the “identity of Hanoi”.

"I love the changes in Hanoi's transitional period. It is the rapid changes in Hanoi that inspire me to create the works displayed at today's exhibition," added artist Binh Chuong.

As an artist who used to paint abstractly and expressively, Pham Binh Chuong decided to stick with "neoclassical realism" painting. This is also the style that helps him feel and express the soul of Hanoi streets in the most convincing way. Hanoi is always an endless source of inspiration - that is also the message of the fourth exhibition "Going to the streets" by artist Pham Binh Chuong.

The exhibition "Xuong pho 4" takes place from November 1 to November 7, 2024, at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts (66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi).
