With the advantage of a long coastline and a dense river system, Vietnam has great potential to develop the aquaculture industry. Over the years, this sector has not only contributed to ensuring food security but also been a major driving force for exports.
According to data from the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance, in the first and second quarters of 2025, total aquatic product output reached about 4.5 million tons, of which aquaculture accounted for nearly 60%. Export turnover reached 5.25 billion USD, up 19.5% over the same period last year, showing strong recovery and growth momentum.
Despite many achievements, the industry still faces many challenges such as small-scale production, weak logistics infrastructure and increasingly strict technical barriers from the international market, especially the IUU yellow card issue.
Sharing about the importance of the industry, Mr. Vu Tuan Cuong, Director of the Center for Aquaculture Testing, Inspection and Certification (TT 3K) of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) emphasized: "The fisheries industry in particular and agriculture in general are always focused on and considered as a pillar by the Vietnamese government. In difficult circumstances, fisheries are considered a lifeline to pull the whole economy up. This is an industry that exploits resources and creates added value directly, not processing, that is the great potential and advantage".

To overcome challenges and develop sustainably, the seafood industry is focusing on digital transformation, applying modern technology, ensuring food safety and hygiene, and diversifying export markets.
In the context that the aquaculture industry is in need of breakthrough solutions, the first-ever combination of the Vietnam International Shrimp Technology Exhibition (VietShrimp Asia 2026) and the International Aquaculture Exhibition (Aquaculture Vietnam 2026) is considered a landmark event.
The exhibition will take place from March 11-13, 2026 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), Ho Chi Minh City. After 10 years of successful organization in the Mekong Delta, bringing the event to the most dynamic economic center of the country promises to open up a comprehensive connection environment, combining local identity and global vision.
Explaining this strategic combination, Ms. Rose Chitanuwat, Project Chain Director (Asia Region) of Informa Markets Group said: "2026 is the first time we have boldly combined the seafood exhibition with VietShrimp. Our intention is to bring these two industries closer together, thereby bringing the seafood industry and the shrimp farming industry in Vietnam to a new level. We believe that Vietnam still has a lot of room for development through science and technology and new farming techniques, helping the production industry become more efficient and environmentally friendly, in line with the global ESG trend".

The event is organized by the world's leading exhibition unit, with an expected scale of gathering more than 200 exhibitors and attracting over 7,000 professional visitors from more than 30 countries. On an exhibition area of 8,800 m2, the exhibition will introduce the most advanced technologies and solutions, from breeds, feed, biosafety equipment to traceability solutions and export inspection.
In addition to the exhibition, the event also offers a series of seminars, technical forums and business networking programs (Match & Meet), creating opportunities for businesses to update market trends, exchange knowledge and expand cooperation.
