As the breadwinner of the family, Mr. Nguyen Dang Khuong (father of Martyr, Major Nguyen Dang Khai) seemed to have to suppress his pain to take care of the funeral of his late son. His eyes were red, the father who had just lost his son quietly stood by the door, his eyes seemed lifeless as he stared at the coffin, where his son had just left behind unfinished plans...

Martyr Nguyen Dang Khai's father stood silently looking at his son's coffin.

"Many reporters asked me about the situation, how I was doing, what should I say now...", without complaining or complaining, perhaps when his son entered the industry, becoming a drug detective, he understood and always supported all of his son's aspirations. Only when a leader of Quang Ninh province shared and encouraged him, did the father burst into tears, unable to hide the pain he had been holding back for so long.

Mr. Khuong and his wife are kind and simple, their main job is farming, in addition, he has a job as a construction worker. The couple worked hard, saved up to send their 2 children to university and built a small 2-storey house. Joy after joy when Khai passed the People's Police Academy with the second highest score; a few years later, his younger sister also passed the university entrance exam. After graduating, Khai was assigned to work at the Dong Trieu City Police Department, Quang Ninh, which has been 6 years so far. His younger sister just graduated a few months ago and is also working at a company. With their children having stable jobs, their parents thought it would be less difficult...

Working in Quang Ninh, about 100km from home, because of the special nature of the police force, especially in the Drug Crime Prevention Team, Khai did not have much time to visit home, his parents mainly met him through the phone screen. However, unexpectedly, the call late at night on April 17 that Mr. Khuong received was a call with bad news, from his son's teammates.

"So many unfinished plans... I often teased him when I would give you guys a party. Khai said he was still planning to go to graduate school, and that he would ask you guys to take care of getting married at the end of this year. How come after that late night call, we didn't have to worry about his wedding, but instead we were here taking care of his funeral. Everything happened so suddenly, so heartbreaking...", Mr. Nguyen Dang Khan, Major Khai's uncle who lives next door, could not hide his pain.

Since childhood, Khai was obedient, studied hard, and was loved by everyone. Mrs. Vu Thi Pho, a neighbor of the family of Martyr, Major Nguyen Dang Khai, confided: "The family is a farmer, but both brothers are hard-working and study very well. He passed the university entrance exam, became a police officer, and was the pride of the whole neighborhood. During his university years and after that, we never saw him bring any girlfriend home. Recently, we also heard that he had a girlfriend in Quang Ninh, and we were happy for him. His parents are farmers, and there is a piece of land next to the house. Mr. Khuong often said that when he got married, he would build a house or sell it, and save money for him to buy a house to settle down in Quang Ninh. Who would have thought it would turn out like this...".

Badge — The "Brave Youth" badge posthumously awarded by the Central Youth Union was solemnly placed on the altar of Martyr Nguyen Dang Khai.

Major Nguyen Dang Khai passed away suddenly at a very young age, fatally shot by drug trafficker Bui Dinh Khanh right after he had arrested two other members of the drug ring. His passing was a great loss to his family and his comrades.

"It's peace , why is the blood of my comrades still falling?", "How heartbreaking, just yesterday afternoon, in the same hallway, we were still laughing together, why are you gone? Rest in peace, we will continue writing the journey...", "I miss you...". The tearful confidences of the comrades who still fought side by side with Khai day and night, there are still so many words that cannot be said. Now, the mission is completed, but "The promise to go and come back together with you is not fulfilled...".

Major Nguyen Dang Khai, who used to work at Dong Trieu City Police, was transferred to the Drug Crime Investigation Department (Quang Ninh Province Police) just over a month after the district police were dissolved. This was also the first major project he participated in when he was in the new unit.
