The full marathon race of Tien Phong Marathon 2025 started very excitingly when Nguyen Van Lai, Le Van Tuan, Hua Thuan Long, Mai Quy Phong, Hoang Nguyen Thanh and Trinh Tien Luyen formed the leading group. Everyone was calm because the journey was still very long.
Halfway through the race, Hoang Nguyen Thanh suddenly disappeared from sight while Nguyen Van Lai, Le Van Tuan, Mai Quy Phong, and Trinh Tien Luyen continued to walk. This surprised everyone, and then they thought about a happy ending for Nguyen Van Lai, the veteran who is aiming to win a place to attend the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year. At the age of 39, he considered this his last chance.
However, after about 30km, Hoang Nguyen Thanh appeared and gradually caught up with the leading group. At the 35th kilometer, the athlete from Binh Phuoc began to accelerate, taking long, strong strides on the wet road in Quang Tri . Worthy of the title "marathon king", the 5-time champion of Tien Phong Marathon in the full marathon category continued to run and leave everything behind.

As the first Vietnamese athlete to win a gold medal in the SEA Games marathon (2022), and also broke the national record with a time of 2 hours 18 minutes 43 seconds at the 2024 Asian Marathon Championship, Hoang Nguyen Thanh once again showed his top form. In the last 2-3km, he rushed to the finish line alone and did not encounter any competition. Nguyen Van Lai, Le Van Tuan, Mai Quy Phong and Trinh Tien Luyen, although trying very hard, could not catch up.
Finally the moment of glory came. Hoang Nguyen Thanh looked back to find his opponent, but he was nowhere to be seen. He stepped onto the green carpet, grabbed the finishing tape and shouted loudly, exploding with emotion after an excellent morning with a result of 2 hours 32 minutes 20 seconds. Meanwhile, veteran Nguyen Van Lai had to be satisfied with second place, similar to last year. The next finishers were Mai Quy Phong and Pham Ngoc Phan.
