Meanwhile, in the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) decreased by 0.42% to 100.01.
USD exchange rate today in the world
The dollar continued to weaken in the last trading session, partly due to more cautious comments on the economy from US Federal Reserve officials, even as traders looked ahead to upcoming US-Japan talks, which could include currency discussions as part of a trade deal.
The greenback was also pressured by news that US President Donald Trump is facing pressure in the House of Representatives over his comprehensive tax bill, which would push through sweeping government reforms. The bill includes at least $1.5 trillion in spending cuts to offset tax cuts from his first term, while also delivering on campaign promises such as exempting tips and overtime from income tax and increasing the standard deduction.
Earlier in the week, the USD was widely sold off after Moody's downgraded the US credit rating from its highest rating late last week.
Fed officials also expressed concern about the impact of the Trump administration’s trade policies on the economy in the last session. St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President Alberto Musalem said that although trade tensions between the United States and China have recently eased, the labor market appears to be weakening and prices are likely to rise further.
Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack said that current trade developments could lead to stagflation.
On May 20, Fed officials also shared the consequences of the latest US government credit rating downgrade and market volatility.
The dollar also fell against the Japanese yen in the previous session, falling to a two-week low of 144.095 yen. The currency closed down 0.2 percent at 144.495 yen.
A sell-off in long-term Japanese government bonds on May 20, which pushed 30-year bond yields to a record high and 20-year bond yields to a near 25-year high, had put pressure on the yen earlier, analysts said.
Upcoming talks between the U.S. and Japan are also on traders' radar. Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are expected to meet on the sidelines of a G7 finance leaders meeting this week in Canada.
Meanwhile, the AUD fell 0.6% against the USD to 0.6416 after the Reserve Bank of Australia cut its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points and left open the possibility of further easing in the coming months.
China's yuan weakened against the dollar after China cut its benchmark interest rate.
Market attention is now focused on a key vote in the US House of Representatives later this week, with Republican leaders saying they will push ahead with the tax bill despite its uncertain prospects.
The pound rose 0.2% against the dollar to 1.3387.
Meanwhile, the EUR increased 0.3% against the greenback, reaching 1.1279 USD.
