Along with Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh Province, Hanoi City, Ha Nam Province and Bac Giang Province, Quang Ninh Province is honored to be the locality to receive the Buddha's relics - the National Treasure of India, to be enshrined and worshiped at Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace. This is an important and rare event because according to Indian regulations, each country is only allowed to receive and enshrine the Buddha's relics once. According to the plan, the procession and enshrinement of the Buddha's relics from Phuc Son Pagoda (Tan Yen District, Bac Giang Province) to Yen Tu Scenic Relic Site (Thuong Yen Cong Commune, Uong Bi City) will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 25, 2025; The ceremony to worship the Buddha's relics at Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace from 7:00 p.m. on May 25 to 12:00 p.m. on May 28; The ceremony to pray for national peace and prosperity at Hoa Yen Pagoda on May 27; Thanksgiving ceremony and procession of Buddha's relics to Chuong Pagoda (Hung Yen province) on May 28.
In recent days, preparations have been carried out urgently and seriously. The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Quang Ninh province has closely coordinated with the functional agencies of Quang Ninh province to implement the decoration and celebration plan; ensure security, order, traffic, health and rescue. Hundreds of volunteers have been mobilized to guide and support people and Buddhists coming to worship. At the same time, fire prevention and fighting measures, crowd control have also been deployed synchronously and professionally. One of the requirements from the Indian side is to strictly ensure the temperature and humidity conditions at the place where the relics are enshrined. In response to this requirement, a modern cooling system has been installed at Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace. The stage area, the space for placing the relics, worshipping and praying have all been completed to the smallest detail, with the active contribution of a large number of monks, nuns and Buddhists from many provinces and cities. In addition, the sound, lighting and environmental sanitation systems have also been upgraded synchronously.
Venerable Thich Khai Tu, Standing Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Quang Ninh Province, said: In the past few days, a large number of monks, nuns, and Buddhists have participated in a great response, from resources to efforts to focus on preparing for the festival decoration and logistics. On this occasion, the Executive Committee will provide free food and drinks for Buddhists to come and worship the Buddha's relics.
The event is expected to attract from 500,000 to 1 million people, Buddhists and tourists from all over the world. To meet the needs of food and accommodation during the pilgrimage, Uong Bi City has reviewed and prepared a system of more than 2,000 accommodation rooms, which can serve about 10,000 visitors at the same time. Units such as Tung Lam Development Joint Stock Company also ensure the best service conditions for delegates and pilgrims. The Legacy and Lang Nuong areas are given priority for the Organizing Committee and service staff, ensuring maximum comfort and safety. Mr. Le Trong Thanh, Deputy General Director of Tung Lam Development Joint Stock Company, shared: To prepare for this important event, the Company has carefully arranged accommodation conditions at the Legacy and Lang Nuong areas, basically serving the Organizing Committee, monks and nuns, service staff and people, pilgrims coming to worship. In addition, focus on ensuring environmental sanitation, security and order, and logistics for the event.
During the time of the relics enshrining, many Buddhist activities, sacred rituals and unique cultures will be held at Yen Tu. The highlights will be the procession of the relics from Phuc Son Pagoda (Bac Giang) to Yen Tu, the enthronement ceremony, the worship ceremony and the prayer for national peace and prosperity at Hoa Yen Pagoda. After that, there will be a thanksgiving ceremony and the procession of the relics to Chuong Pagoda (Hung Yen). The enshrinement of Buddha’s relics at Yen Tu is not only a special event for Buddhists but also a precious opportunity to spread the cultural and spiritual values of Truc Lam Zen – a unique Zen sect of Vietnamese Buddhism. This event contributes to affirming Yen Tu’s position as the leading cultural and spiritual tourism center in the country, while promoting sustainable tourism development in Quang Ninh province, associated with heritage conservation.
