Hanoi welcomes nearly 13 million visitors in the first 5 months of 2025
Outstanding activities have contributed to increasing the total number of tourists to Hanoi in the first 5 months of the year, with the figure estimated at 12.77 million, up 10.9% over the same period in 2024. Of which, international tourists are estimated at 3.16 million, up 20.2% over the same period in 2024 (including 2.23 million international visitors with accommodation); domestic tourists are estimated at 9.61 million, up 7.8% over the same period in 2024. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 51.94 trillion, up 14.1% over the same period in 2024.
In May 2025 alone, the total number of tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 2.72 million, an increase of 16.9% over the same period in 2024. Of which: international tourists are estimated at 567,37 thousand, an increase of 25% over the same period in 2024 (including 400 thousand international tourists with accommodation); domestic tourists are estimated at 2.16 million, an increase of 14.9% over the same period in 2024. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 10.54 trillion VND, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2024.
The general assessment from the report shows that, in the context of domestic and international economy facing many difficulties and challenges, many economic sectors and fields have low recovery and growth rates, the Capital's tourism industry continues to recover and develop, achieving many positive results. The development indicators of the industry all have high growth rates, exceeding the set Plans.
On the international market, the capital's tourism industry is increasingly affirming its position, image and brand in the region as well as in the world. In the first 5 months of 2025, the number of international visitors to Hanoi increased steadily, especially from key markets such as Japan, Korea, China, France and the US. International visitors highly appreciate tourism products associated with cultural heritage, cuisine, tours to experience traditional craft villages and nightlife activities. The even growth from these markets contributes to affirming the growing appeal of Hanoi on the international tourism map.
The organization of tourism promotion activities, events and programs has also been innovated, attracting the participation of a large number of businesses and tourists. Events are organized on a large scale, professionally, annually, in a series from the beginning of the year to the end of the year with many activities, unique and attractive content, applying many new technologies such as 3D, Mapping, Drone. In addition, communication and promotion work has also been focused on, tourism businesses have proactively linked with media units and airlines to promote their products. Many businesses have devoted large resources to investing in professional marketing products to promote on digital media platforms.
In the coming months, the Department of Tourism has identified five main goals and tasks: Improving the effectiveness and management of State management; building tourism products, promoting cooperation and developing markets; promoting and advertising tourism; promoting digital transformation of the capital's tourism industry; strengthening inspection and examination, building a safe, friendly and civilized tourism environment.
In particular, the capital's tourism industry will continue to prioritize support and direct units managing heritage destinations and cultural relics to invest in and research the development of tours and cultural tourism products associated with night tourism on the basis of exploiting traditional cultural values; Implement the task of building a model of agricultural and rural tourism; Implement the task of building a model of community tourism associated with the practical experience of traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in Thach That and Quoc Oai districts.
At the same time, coordinate to organize a number of programs, contents, and forms to continue to promote and develop tourism products that are Hanoi's strengths such as culinary tourism, MICE tourism, health care tourism, etc. Continue to develop new tourism products in areas with potential and strengths such as: night tourism in Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho districts, adventure sports tourism, experiential tourism, Red River tourism, virtual reality application tourism, etc.
