A special art program called Vietnamese Songs with Russian Lyrics took place warmly and emotionally this afternoon, May 10.

The event was organized by former students and lecturers of the Russian Language Department to pay tribute to teacher and translator Le Duc Man, who spent more than 30 years patiently translating more than 60 Vietnamese songs into Russian.

The highlight that surprised and left a deep impression in the program was the performance of famous Vietnamese songs such as Tien ve Ha Noi , Bai ca Ho Chi Minh, Noi vong tay lon, Moi ngay toi chon mot vuc... but performed entirely in Russian.

Those familiar melodies, when dressed in the "new clothes" of the Russian language, bring a new, emotional artistic experience to the listener.

Each performance is introduced with a short story about the birth of the song and the elaborate translation journey of Mr. Le Duc Man - the person who quietly but persistently created " musical bridges" between two cultures for three decades.

Mr. Le Duc Man is a former lecturer at the Russian Department, Hanoi University, working at the school from 1966 until his retirement in 2002. Not only is he a dedicated teacher, he is also known as a veteran translator, having translated many classic Russian literary works into Vietnamese.

Several of his translations have been published and widely used in university teaching, demonstrating his talent and contributions in many fields of translation.

However, the most special and little-known work is the persistent journey of translating Vietnamese song lyrics into Russian – starting in the 1990s. At first it was just a personal hobby, but later it became a cultural mission that deeply connects the two peoples.

“Translating a song is not simply a matter of translating, but rather the art of conveying emotions. I always try to preserve the spirit of the original so that Russian listeners can feel the lyrics as if they were in their mother tongue, ” Mr. Le Duc Man shared during the exchange session at the program.

The song

The song "Bonjour Vietnam" was performed by the choir of Hanoi University, Russian Department.

The sharing shows the meticulousness, dedication and love that Mr. Le Duc Man puts into each translation, with the greatest wish that the beautiful melodies and lyrics of Vietnam can touch the hearts of Russian people.

Many generations of students, alumni, colleagues and Russian language lovers gathered to pay tribute to the respected teacher - who silently spread the passion and built "bridges" of cultural exchange through songs and melodies.

In every story told, every look, every hug, one feels not only respect but also deep gratitude for a teacher who quietly devoted his whole life to knowledge and art.

The program Vietnamese Songs with Russian Lyrics is not only an opportunity to honor teacher Le Duc Man, but also a touching reminder of the value of silent contributions - small things but with great influence in the journey of cultivating friendship and understanding between nations.
